I'm sure using modern wheels you could lighten the bike up, but still I have a steel bike from the mid 80's called a Fuji Club, without fancy light weight wheels or CF fork and it only weighs 21 pounds, in fact the racing version of my bike weighed 19 1/2 pounds and that was all due to higher end components, the frame was the same as mine. But typically most Softrides were hovering around the mid 20's on the lighter end back in the late 80's or early 90's (I can't remember when I rode it), the one I rode was a steel bike, later in the mid or late 90's they came out with a lighter aluminum frame and I think they also came out with, or another company did, a carbon fiber beam replacement.

Thanks for all the input. 10 days post op.not much pain at all now. Yes it is tender and sore, they did a L4-5 fusion with screws, rods and bone. Dr is now saying JUST wear the brace for 3 mos and l'll probably turn you loose. He has ridden a lot of miles where I usually ride so knows its hilly, but smooth.

Walk a lot and no specific PT for now, he said, I repeat walk a lot. So we'll see.
