In cycling around I see these huuuge Xmas monstrosity’s

Where does the desire to setup such lavish over the top displays eminate from?

Is it the same shortcomings loud Harley riders are inflicted with?

    Monstrous light displays baffle me.

Monstrosities are in the eye of the beholder. You are free not to look if the bafflement is too troubling, or even to ride in different neighborhoods.

Jesus is very happy for them spending all that money gaudily decorating their houses (in his honor). He's much happier they didn't give that money to the needy.
I'm sure it's in the Gospel of Matthew somewhere.

Jesus loves all that plastic that will end up in the oceans and be eaten by the whales.

Mankind is a cancer infecting earth.

Expand your mind beyond anger and spellchecking and you’ll see the massive damage caused by trying to prove to the neighborhood that we love Jesus the mostest.

Lately I'm seeing just as much effort being put into Halloween monstrosities, aren't you worried about the "massive damage" caused by trying to prove to the neighbors their love of imaginary monsters, zombies and ghosts.

    It all sucks!

Like I say, a Cancer on Earth.

Then you have the religious zealot who goes to the remote island to spread the gospel to the indigenous dwellers whom are causing no harm to the planet and gets himself perforated.

Well, some men you just can't change.

Yes but monsters, zombies and ghosts wouldn't give a $#it. Ironically Jesus would hate all of it. Yet it's done in his name.

Actually FF, this begs a much deeper philosophical conversation about your faith and man's questionable behavior. Really? Human's are rational beings? Come on.

A genius like the incomparable Hendrix didn't feel it worth it to hang around too long. He saw enough the short time he was here:

He was indeed incomparable. I saw him once, at Winterland in San Francisco, about a year before he died. Astonishing show.

I'm not angry at all. Your original post didn't mention your (perfectly legitimate) environmental concerns with plastic waste. You just seemed bugged by the displays, for reasons that were unclear. That's what I was responding to.

Sometimes it's just fun to decorate things, just to feel festive. I don't begrudge people that impulse, whatever their motivation. And honestly, I don't know what they're trying to prove. Some displays are tacky and not at all to my taste, and others I find enjoyable.

No real reason to clarify that; there wasn't a hint of anger in your post.

Man I wish I could have been there when the band did their last waltz concert at that venue!

That would have been something. I'm thankful we got a hell of a movie out of it, anyway.

I saw them once, a couple years earlier, at a different venue (in Berkeley). They were almost too good. The level of musicianship that went into that deceptively ragged sound was as good as it gets.

Yeah, especially Clapton because only a virtuoso really understands how good Jimi was.
As the comments showed under the video of machine gun which was about Vietnam of course and seems to be a centerpiece of your thinking in posts reflected here...man's inhumanity to man, that mg lick is one of the greatest guitar rock riffs of all time.
No words to describe what a talent Hendrix was. From another planet. He didn't play guitar. He was the guitar. Wired to his brain. Freakishly good.

Astonishing is really a great description. Fortunately there is still video of him playing. He played so differently than others who seemed to play with some level of deliberacy. Jimi seemed to play the guitar like pouring water. The music just seemed to come out of it like he wasn't even playing.

Have to give props to Prince too. Another genius prodigy. His guitar playing was so underrated. He was brilliant.

Oh for f---'s sake, is this all you have to worry about? Perhaps it has nothing at all to do with reflecting one's religious fervor but rather getting the kiddos fired up for Ol' St. Nick's arrival. Or maybe just a bit of fun, like having an ugly sweater party. I have fond childhood memories of being driven around to gawk at light displays.

As for the "environmental aspect", anyone on this board complaining about xmas decorations as such is living in a glass house. That bike, helmet, spandex you have certainly wasn't harvested from an organic tree farm. I would argue that the presents bought during the holiday, particularly those destined to be thrown away shortly after Junior tires of them, are a bigger concern than an inflatable Santa on the lawn or a string of LEDs on the roof.

    Lighten up.

And no, my wife and I have no kids, and our decorations consist of 5 red bows that we tie to my front porch.
