A cycling club for solo riders

Sean Sako (Sakinfosky) is trying to start a club for cyclists that like to ride alone. It should be interesting to see how this plays out from a social experiment perspective.

A little about Sean (he’s an interesting dude).

Self absorbed, well he’d probably fit right in at RBR and the modern world then. Isn’t that what social media and online forums are all about, being self absorbed? He’s probably a lot more like the rest of us than we’d like to admit.

Well, he is a lot more disciplined (by virtue of ballet and his physique), I’ll grant you that.
    But a sock genius?
    C’mon, man

Lol, I am not much of a fan either, but I guess he did create something out of nothing. Have to give him credit for that. It’s not easy.

Seriously, though, as someone who rides solo this is an interesting idea.

This surprises you given he's the proprietor of a club focused on solo riding?

A club for solo riders? Isn't this an oxymoron? Looks like someone who likes to ride alone, but wants some social media fame.

Doesn't a cycling forum serve this purpose?

    I ride alone, yeah
    With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I ride alone
I prefer to be by myself

... with apologies to George Thorogood

OK, back to this dude. Life is too short and already brutal enough without having to read this dude's tl;dr bio.

What, pray tell, is sock doping?

Did any of you get that far in his ridiculously gushing bio?

I think sock doping is the term that is used when someone is dumb enough to buy into this dude's line of BS.

Well, yeah, you have a great point! He's pushing his line of Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Mark Chagall, Amedeo Modigliani socks! "The best or nothing!"

Riding alone and riding with a group are two entirely different things. I've always thought both are great for fitness and confidence on the bike.

I can see why a guy wanting to stay in touch with his creative energies would like to ride alone. One can go anywhere, ride any way on a whim, and let his thoughts wander. He can space out on the scenery, drink in the sensual pleasures.

OTOH, when a group ride works, its an achievement like no other. It taps into the survival instinct, the hunt for game. Something very elemental about that.

Ahem. A well rounded cyclist should do both.

Pretty sure Strava filled this roles already. . .

I started a club for apathists but it never took off because nobody would show up for our meetings.

I'm looking for an ADD club in my area. Holy cow, the biggest blue jay is outside my window. That reminds me. What the heck was the name of Aunt Mary Alice's parakeet, the last one she had before she died? That's gonna drive me nuts. I'll start with one of those websites that have lists of baby names. I wonder what the name Declan means.

There was an ad a few years ago in my local 'alternative' newspaper for an anarchist group that was forming. I haven't heard anything about the group since. I suspect they couldn't agree on who would run it......

Coolhand, you're a pretty big deal here at RBR.

As our Number One RBR Ambassador and Spokesperson, you should extend an official invitation to Sean Sako (Sakinfosky) to join RBR forums.

A Sock Genius would be a great addition to all the other geniuses we have here.

    Maybe a Sock Doping forum?
OK. I'm getting ahead of myself.

Well I don't know, if he's interested in some rides he can come over, I ride alone alot. So when he gets at the club start, I'll go N and he can go S!
There are more hills down S, and I didn't read one link of it!

When you get right down to it, doesn't "a club for solo riders" kinda describe this place?
