    The Death Of InterBike!!!

    … at least for 2019

    https://www.bikeradar.com/road/news/...ncelled-53357/

The substantial increase in tariffs on bike-related imports during 2018, and announced for 2019, is compounding these challenges.

Hasn't this event been dying for years?

    Is this an indicator of:
    A. A declining bike industry/market
    B. A problem with the convention itself
    C. A & B

For me, our store is full of model year 19 products by June of 18. It makes absolutely no sense to spend thousands of dollars to go to a show and see all the stuff that's on my floor already. MY21 Interbike should be in April of 2020.

It would be kind of fun to pretend there's HUGE industry buzz complete with simulated briefcases o' Benjamins and former pro riders to trick the Chinese rip off & duplicate peeps into copying it on a large scale.

The winter outdoor retailer convention is apparently on the same track. After moving from SLC to Denver a couple years ago, more and more distributors are opting not to buy space at the convention at all but rather renting smaller off-site venues and inviting select media/bloggers to ogle their product in a more intensive setting.

You can learn so much about a product online nowadays that perhaps conventions aren't really necessary. As 202cycle points out, there's less and less reason for a shop owner to pay money for the privilege of being marketed to.

Emerald Expositions executive vice president Darrell Denny took this opportunity to make a political criticism instead of addressing Interbike's irrelevancy due to the way communication has evolved.

Don't worry. Bob Roll is not conjoined to InterBike and will live on.
