Most mountain bikers are not silly enough to partake in indoor trainer cycling. Most, but not all.

not all mountain bikers live next to a good downhill slope.

I guess it's a start. But, while there's a lot of "push" (supporting weight, absorbing shock/impact - triceps, chest, forearms) there's a lot of "pull" (unweighting front end, manuals - back, shoulders, more forearms)... and that machine's not touching it.

A wide-grip bar on a (cable) seated row machine, one-arm dumbell pulls (a.k.a. lawn mower starts), deadlifts, lat-pulls... would be the other half

I really don't see how any cyclist - downhill mountain biker, XC mountain biker or roadie can only ride and not cross train - some upper body and core
