    How does this happen

Got my first flat of the year. How does a screw drive itself perfectly into my tire?

    That is impressive. Chapeau!
Given his penchant for nicknames, and his aversion to reading, I've decided to shorten Donald J. Trump to it's essence: Dump*

I was "social distancing" before it was cool.

Did you lose tire pressure right away when it happened?
More Americans wanted Hillary Clinton to be President than wanted Donald Trump.

Donald Trump has never had a wife he didn't cheat on.

"Oh my god. This is terrible. This is the end of my presidency. Im fd.

had the same thing happen a few months ago...hit a deck screw which pierced the front tire in exactly the same perpendicular fashion.

bad enough that it ruined an almost brand-new Conti 4KIIS tire, but it also penetrated the floor of the C24 rim.

with no screwdriver or pliers, the screw was a PITA to remove...finally worked it out, made a boot from some stiff cardboard I found nearby to cover the hole in the rim, threw in a new tube, and finished my ride.

had to toss the tire, but the rim is still going strong.

No. I felt the tapping of the screw on the road. I thought maybe I picked up some crud. It wasn't flat yet and I was only 2 miles from home so I tried to make it. Got about 100 yard before it went totally flat. The screw even pierced the rim tape

    Bummer.

I've noticed a nail, wire, tack, staple, or piece of glass frequently flattens out as the tire rotates, or works its way out. I've always wondered how screws never do that. Seems like each time the tire reaches the flat spot, the threads turn a little, drawing the screw in further. A piece of glass or nail might hammer deeper into the tire, but screws always seem to stick due to the spiral threads. Once in there, they're hard to get out, as you experienced. Tenacious little things.

A miniature Victorinox LL Bean pocket knife with flat blade screwdriver, carried with house and bike lock keys on a hand grenade pull, souvenir from the Tet Offensive, does the trick. I've never left home without it.

I was on a ride once where someone had a nail not only go through the tire, but the rim as well! We all had a good laugh over that one.
