forever--in fact it can be used in place of epoxy, mortar, or when resurfacing a road, tar.

Seriously, is it good for, say, a year or two after?

Most likely, its full of preservatives. I would say for sure if it's been in a refrigerator or freezer. I'd probally throw it away after two years, but I've had some that's about a year old and have had no adverse reactions.

FYI, there's a guy selling 24-pack boxes of the orange flavor for $5 on ebay. Expiration date was March '04.

I bought two boxes a few hours ago from him. It was $18 with shipping. I've had expired Gu before that was about 6 months older than the expiration date and it was fine.

I've also purchased these from him

w/ expirations of 04/04 and 03/04 (several cases, and I've received them all). They're fine as far as I can tell, and with the ingredients in GU, I can't really believe that they'll go bad in the near future. I even keep some in my desk drawer for a quick carb hit if I get too hungry...

    GU uses

a "best by" date which means the flavor or quality is best by this date but the product is still edible thereafter.
