    Wahoo acquires Speedplay

    Wahoo acquires Speedplay

The one part of the story I don't love (although business is business) is hinting that increasing production would likely mean production in new locations... which to me is hinting overseas vs San Diego.

Well, one of the common complaints with Speedplay is the high price. So, maybe some offshore manufacturing will ease that a bit.

I think the worst part of this story is that Pitbull has more competition than he did this morning. Sorry PB... couldn't resist.

I'm guessing this means another solid entrant in the power meter pedal segment. I ditched my Garmin computer for a Bolt, I'll likely drop the Looks for a set of Wahoo/Speedplay Pedals... sorry, Pedls... uh.. Pdals.

    Must spread reputation around, bah!

Have we asked in the Pitbull thread where power is on the roadmap?

I used to want Speedplays because I thought it was cool they called their pedals Frogs. But in reality have always stuck with SPD and SPD-SL .

    Maybe or maybe not.

Speedplay, years ago, implemented the same MSRP=MAP, no advertised sales, and geo-locked price markets shenanigans in the USA that SRAM and others recently took to.

Depends on what Wahoo does about the MAP policy...which BTW AFAIK is illegal in the EU.

I am a dedicated Look user so this won't help me, but it does seem like the market is gravitating toward pedal based power meters. If this ultimately brings down the price of other power measuring pedals that is a good thing

Not that high if you factor in the cleats replacement cost of other brands over time.

Given how old the Speedplay patents are, how are there not eleventy billion Alibaba resellers hawking knockoff versions?

    Higher actually.

Speedplays are $40-$60USD per cleat set.

    SPDs are $15.

I was referring to road bike (SPD-SL) cleats. Yes, SPDs are cheaper.
