    Why my Brooks sagged

I had a Brooks for nearly 3. I saw a lot of Brooks images are flat, even those on sale are also flat, and one of my friend riding a Brooks for many yrs didnít sag at all. Other brands like Berthoud and Rivet are also flat.

As matter of curiosity, how many of you are comfortable with a sagged Brooks (or any other brand), and what is your sagged amount?

Why Brooks saddle are designed flat and Selle Anatomica are designed sagged

I tried a Brooks and never got used to it. I rode it for about 500 miles and it still didn't break in. I used Proofide on it too. I think the flat, hard shape is real bad for ED and perineal comfort. I have a SA saddle and it was a lot better, but found that the WTB Pure V saddle is just as comfortable for me, doesn't weigh a lot, doesn't require periodic adjustment, and doesn't make noise so I stopped using the SA saddle.

You should reach out to SA as to how to tension the saddle the right amount. Too much and you are go to stretch it out prematurely. That has been a problem with these saddles. I think a friend told me that you tension it just enough that the slot edges just begin to touch.

I tried an SA saddle and it did not work for me.
You sit on the area that sags but then there is the very stiff metal structure at the rear which I could feel. I never felt like I was stable on this saddle.
Nor did it give me the relief on my sit bones that I was seeking.
But a lot of people seem to love it.
I rode an Brooks Professional back in 1980's.
I do remember the break in period but it seemed fine after that, but I was much younger and my butt was probably much more tolerant than it is now.

    Brooks

I have two bikes & two brooks saddles both fine no sag.
But if you use oil or some other leather softener yes they will sag & you wonít like it. Leather softeners change the leather fibers allowing leather to stretch what you are calling sag!
Drawback is they do not do as well getting wet.

I have the Brooks Professional and the B17. I prefer the Professional. The B17 started out hard, but shortly started to sag, making it necessary to tighten the bolt. It seems that the B17 uses thinner leather.

    Professional?

So how does one tell the difference between the B.17 & professional?

There was a nice one with carving into seat in San Fran I turned down I regret.

I've been riding a Berthoud Aspin saddle for a bit over 700 miles and have found it to be comfortable from the start. Berthoud also make a narrower saddle, the Galibier\Soulor, or a wider one, the Aubisque.
