1 bad tube, 1 sidewall blowout, 2 really tight tire/rim combos.

Good part, all at home while swapping out tires on a couple bikes.

Worst part, blisters on my thumbs.

I thought I had dealt with some tight combos, but the bonty rim/geax tire on my wife's mtb was way worse than anything I have ever done battle with before. I was really close to breaking out some extra leverage beyond the tire irons, and I almost never use them at all.

Tire looks nice though, it should work better than the shelled out z-max that was on there.

    try these-

Two items that make my life easier

Zipp rim strips- very thin and strong, order from Zipp for about 6 bucks. They take up less space on the rim so tight fitting tires are easier to mount. ( yes, I said "mount").

Topeak tire levers- man these are strong, can't imagine breaking one.

I once tried to put some 25mm tires on my dad's Cannondale Synapse. I forget the brand of tire, but I was almost in tears.

And of course, he was standing over me saying stuff like "Gee, that looks hard" and "We can just have the bike shop do it." Thanks, pops.

    P.S.
Soma makes the best tire levers evar.

Thanks, when I get on a machine with a sound card I will listen.

It wasn't all that bad, I did get to go to 3 bike shops, and do a small bit of masonry, both fun things. And since I mowed (bleh) we can play some croquet tonight (yay!).

Pro2 on almost anything. I have several different types and all are pretty tough. My no-name fixed gear wheel is almost impossible in fact. I thought I was going to snap the wire in the tire bead in fact. If I ever get a flat on that tire, I'll be walking home. I can't see changing it out in the field even with 3 tire levers.

[QUOTE=dr hoo]I thought I had dealt with some tight combos, but the bonty rim/geax tire QUOTE]

The bonty tubeless rims that run on my mtb (which I don't run tubeless) are a real beyotch to change tubes or tires. W/out a doubt, they are the hardest rims I have ever changed tires on. I had to google some tips on tire changing for the rims to make my life easier.
