    29er down....repeat...29er down...send backup

    Well it's not really down, but the BB appears to be toast. Taking it to Excel today to see if they will warranty it. When I spin the crank backwards I can feel a distinct clicking and it makes a helluva racket under load. Sound like a fried BB to you? Amazingly enough in all my years of riding I don't think I've ever ruined a BB before.

    What brand of BB/Crank?

    RaceFace XTypes are notoriously short lived. Replace the OEM bearings with enduro's for 20 bucks and they'll last a good bit longer. I still think the old cartridge BB's were more durable on a MTB.

    Dunno...something cheap...whatever Redline uses stock. I'll see if Excel will replace it for free--if not I'll upgrade to something a bit more durable. The only way I can see it was my fault is if I somehow bent it smacking it on a rock or something like that, but it looks OK when I spin it.

    //redline stats just say: "Square taper 68 x 110mm"

    You probably split too much alcohol on it and washed out the lube.

    Forget trying to warranty it. You'll just get another POS.

    Get an old Shimano Lx Or Xt square taper and you're golden.

    Yeah I have an LX on my Fisher and have had no problems with it. I'll take it in and see what they think. Probably $25 tops I'm guessing.

    I have a friend that used this as a replacement for a POS Truvativ and has had great luck.

    This is payback for telling me to get a 29er single speed after my wife's XTR rear failure. Karma is a biotch.

    OK, you got me there. 2 new hangers (need a spare now) = 30 dollars, one rear dérailleur = 50.00 dollars (ebay), new cable and housing = 10 dollars. Look on your wife's face as she peddles her cute little butt up Mt Crested Butte on a single speed, PRICELESS.
