Question Are all computers made in China ??

I was a little shocked to find out that by brand new computer was made in China. I guess that I don't pay attention to stuff like that, but it threw me a little to see that. Does anybody know where else they are still made? How long ago was the last computer made in the USA or Japan ?

Buying parts to hang on your bike is always easier than getting fit.

You were shocked? Have mass-market computer components ever been made in the US? Whoever can make 'em cheapest and it sounds like China is the one these days.

Somehow I had the idea that they were made in Taiwan or some other place like that.

i'm sure that's there's probably a few companies who "assemble" their computers here in the US. dell, perhaps?

but all the pieces that go into it, hard drives, cd-roms, memory, motherboards, cards etc, are probably all made in china, taiwan, malaysia and elsewhere.

I mentioned to a co-worker, and he said that his Dell was made in China.

My computer was made in my computer room. Buy a book, make one yourself. Save money. Get exactly what you need.

Most parts are made in Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and, yes, China.

lol I love how geek deprived this board is..

building built in east asia has virtually no bearing on quality whatsoever.. and besides, it isn't something that you can handmake.. why bother having the facilities to make components in the US?

Most of the components, chips in particular, are manufactured in Asia. Intel, fabricates their CPUs here (unless they've opened a new plant that I'm not aware of) but most of the silicon is pressed in Malaysia. LCD screens are also primarily made in Taiwan and Malaysia.

More of the final assembly is done in the US (for domestic brands, obviously) but we just don't make a lot of the components here.
