    Any knifemakers in here?

    Cutlery enthusiasts enquire within.

I bought a knife blade at the gun show this weekend, and was looking for some tips on attaching a wooden (or possibly deer antler) handle.

Is there anything in the way of a step-by-step tutorial? I've hit the googles and haven't turned much up that I didn't already guesstimate.
I lost my phone number. Can I have yours?

I have made a couple of knives. It isn't that hard. If you buy a blank it is just a matter of making or buying the handle and finishing it off.

    Does a shiv count?

How about sharpening a stick on the sidewalk?

/Made a knife or two from the gun-show blank. Mine came with the handle rivets, tho - so problem solved.

Why does knife start with a 'k'? Nife seems to be a better spelling.

I have made quite a few knives, most of them fairly small though. What type of tang does it have?

Try searching for replace+knife+handle. That should get you the step by step part, I would think, and since replacing involves the same steps as installing ....

Youtube should also be useful in understanding the process.

Edit, here's instructions for horn... http://www.primitiveways.com/pt-antlerhandleknife.html It looks pretty simple, really. Rivets and such would be more work.

    Oh.

    Hi.

I bought another knife kit today! It's a NOS CVA Alamo Bowie kit, with a leather do-it-yourself sheath included. I still haven't put together the knife that I started this thread about. So now, I've got 2 unfinished knives sitting around!

Ya know, I have no idea what kind of wood that is...the table is oak, but the handle came with the knife kit, and is some kind of mystery wood. The wood looked very plain until I stained it; then the walnut stain I used really brought out the dark streaks in the grain. It's a pretty soft wood, it sanded like butter, and soaked up the stain like nothing I've ever seen. But, it definitely hardened up with the polyurethane finish I put on there...So, I'm quite confused.

    edit:
    Here's a color-corrected version of the picture

I see you went with the off-white terry loincloth. Wouldn't have been my first choice.
