Well aware... I even have a relative who works there, so I get the ‘inside dirt’/colorful stories.

Note that I did not say I would bet they will fail, just that I lack confidence they will be around.
    I’ll get right on that.

    Did you buy something yet?

I've been driving an Alfa Stelvio for the last 16 months.

This would be my pick for under $80k

Cool thing is it gets serviced by Ferrari techs.

    Been in three times:

    1. One recall/software update for the cat converter
    2. One oil change (free with lease/warranty)
    3. Fix a slight rattle noise (front driver's side disc brake back plate slightly loose)

They never needed the car more than two hours.

It's a lease and I'm driving it very hard. The steering is so precise, the suspension is perfect and the drivetrain is great. I also put over 1,000 miles on a Giulia in Italy. I'm sold on these cars. Hope they come out with the GTV before my Stelvio lease is up.

There’s some sort of famous quote along the lines of, “The Italians make cars that are absolutely perfect... for a day.”

You live in convertible land... so it is a must. Get a used miata now while you wait for longer term solution. Cheap and fun.. and as others have said used is more eco friendly. I wont buy new again....

They are fine if you don't care about power and don't mind being in everyone's blind spot.

This was mine...well, not quite $80k, but I could have gotten it for that, but it was too hot that day and wanted to get it home before dark. Should have haggled for more since they kept it for 3 weeks getting it to pass for CPO:

That's the downside of trying to maximize, versus satisficing, when there are so many options. The best versus good enough takes a LOT more time and effort to get to.

He seems to enjoy the process, a lot. So he's not wasting his time, getting some fun from all the work along the way.

Thanks...but time will tell. "Regret not that what you have done, but that which you have not". That said, I "regret not" researching the cost of replacing PCCBs...rookie mistake. Hoping I can get the Dundon D4 kit before that happens. The PO put 31k on the clock but state inspection revealed rotor density still high.

Just got the DSC Sport controller installed 2 days ago...it will help in letting go of my deposit/spot in line for the 718GT4.

The problem with taking so long to buy anything.. is that new stuff keeps coming out all the time. Cars, electronics, tools, etc etc. You will be looking forever. Just pick something that makes you happy and pull the trigger.

I wouldn't call it super fast by modern sports car standards, but the ND2 (current Miata) is a lot more powerful than Miatas of old. Power to weight ratio is 12.7hp/lb and 0-60 is in the 5 second range. NA (original) Miatas were more like 9 second 0-60. May not blow anyone's doors off, but it will get out of its own way by any reasonable standard.

My only real beef with the Miata is they sound terrible for a sports car. But such is life with most 4-bangers. A high revving straight 6 in a Miata would make for a truly wonderful experience.

It's more the lack of low end torque. Had a NC loaner for a week and it was scary in traffic with SUVs. Then a pickup backed over it in a parking lot--didn't even see it in his rearview mirror. In rural areas on twisty roads they would be fun, though.

You have to drive it a bit differently- higher revs and more frequent downshifting. Plus, the ND2 is a decent bit quicker than an NC. I daily drove a Mazdaspeed Miata for a year (sold due to kid being born). You have to drive them like a motorcycle- assume nobody can see you.

Yeah not a cheap hobby! I'll be looking at early plane jane PDK 991s when my Alfa lease is up.

Yep. My last fun car before the alfa was a 5 speed manual 2007 Ford Mustang GT so pretty much the opposite of a Miata (plus SUVs can hear and see a Mustang). And now I'm fairly blown away with how well the 8 speed auto mates to the 280 hp turbo four banger in my Alfa--crisp and perfect upshifts and downshifts on twisty roads. Probably won't go back to a manual at this point.

Carrera T is what I'd get if looking for 991, save a manual GT3 if I had the ends. Especially if you want to up the power. Word on the street is that it will handle 600hp, and not "too" hard, nor expensive to get there. Almost pulled the trigger on the one at the dealer when I got the GT4, but the GT4's song kept calling me....couldn't resist. Especially with the auto rev-match "fwap" sound.

    GM workers went on strike.

Wonder if that will hose Corvette production? Probably.
