    Beyond Meat

This company makes veggie burgers. They were in the news today because their stock has soared 240% since going public recently. So I decided to go to the store and give it a try for lunch. Overall, I thought they were very tasty, although a bit high in salt. I fried mine up in a pan and topped it with a slice of American cheese. Didn't need any catsup or anything else. A bit pricey - $5.99 for two, 4 oz patties. And the patties are small, but thick. About 3 inches in diameter and about 3/4 inch thick. So you would need to have it on a small bun if you wanted to go that way. I've had veggie burgers before, but I will say that the Beyond Meat burgers do look like real beef - red & juicy.

No free lunch. More plants means less CO2 and more O2, therefore, sunlight blocked by forest fires and we freeze plus higher oxygen content means more aggressive wild fires!!!

I'm hoping canibalism becomes more mainstream. It would help offset over population. Plus, I need a good pairing with Chianti.

anything that reduces the demand for beef, means I might get to buy genuine tenderloins for a lower price. Not a bad deal on balance. Some of my female staff have been getting the fake beef burgers from A&W at lunch and they like it.

Holy crap! A 1/4lb "burger" with 22g fat and 450mg sodium
Anything that needs 450mg of sodium is not worth eating.

No thanks. I'd rather just eat a salad.

It's not the most healthy of things, that's for sure, though I bet a majority of people who have heard of it think it is. But at 25% daily sat fat and 19% daily sodium, not crazy for a "treat" meal. And generally you won't find food in a box to be all that healthy in any case.

I don't mind some non-animal based protein in my diet, but I've never thought the forms that try to mimic meat are the way to go. Tofu makes fine stir fry, for example. Or addition to soups. It is possible to season it in ways that make it tasty when grilled, not that I usually bother. Silken tofu in smoothies. There are ways.

Salt sounds healthier if called electrolytes.

I grew up eating pretty standard "American" family meals, mostly cooked by my mother, usually a salad, a vegetable, a starch, some meat. I had no complaints, my mother is a good cook and we always had plenty of food and a solid balance of what is pretty good for you.

I can't really recall when or why I stopped eating meat. I'm not a vegetarian, I'll eat meat I take while hunting, but I don't hunt that much lately. But, I can't recall the last time I craved me. I'm completely okay without it. And at this point, I'm also well aware, and alarmed by what industrial meat production does to the planet. AND the animals.

We also have two dogs who go bonkers if you cook meat, so that also isn't worth dealing with.

Give me a some greens, some sort of beans, some eggs, some whole milk, some chocolate, some cauliflower, some broccoli, some kale, some fruit, some yogurt, some pretzels, and I'm all set. I eat pretty much anything and I've worked professionally as a cook, but day in and day out, I'm pretty happy with basic fruits, vegetables, a couple eggs a day, and some fruit each day.

Gave up fast food YEARS ago when I was traveling and was in the middle of nowhere and yet, there was still a KFC on the corner. I gave it up not out of food/environmental concerns, but because I didn't want to see the world look the same no matter where you went. I cook most of my own meals. I find going out to eat a waste of time, I can't sit still very long.
