    Buying ammo online... questions

I'm stocking up on 12ga target loads for an upcoming charity sporting clays shoot.

I'm thinking of buying it online, and have looked at a few places -- cheaper than dirt, outdoor limited, lucky gunner.

Do any of you have experience buying ammo online?

Related question... since I have a wide selection to choose from online, are any of you sporting clays shooters, and if so, what's your favorite ammo?

Another question... I usually just buy whatever crap ammo they sell at the sporting clays place, which often jams in the auto shotgun I use.

This year, I'm buying my own ammo.

So I'm actually considering the differences in #8 target loads. FPS, spread, weight of the load, etc.

Any sporting clays, skeet, trap shooters out there with sage lownjey advice to share with me?

I don't do the skeet shooting thing, but a do own a couple machine guns and go through a lot of 9mm and 45 acp. I buy all my ammo on-line. I'd avoid Cheaper Than Dirt. Also, since ammo is heavy, make sure you check shipping costs. There's a place I'd love to buy stuff from, but its on the other side of the country and shipping is really steep (AZ to VA). These guys often have good deals:

    Here's a place in AZ:

This place usually ships for free, so price accordingly. Looks like they have 12 guage bulk:

I've ordered from Rogers' Sporting Goods before with no issues. I think they only sell by the case. I'm not sure what they have for target loads, but they seem to be popular with the waterfowl crowd.

Yes, you can own them, but the process often takes over a year from when you buy one until it can be legally transferred to you that I think anyone with any criminal leanings would be put off by. And since they have been banned from manufacture since 1986, the supply is fixed, and prices are pretty astronomical these days. Want a nice M-16? Got $35,000? These guns are probably the best investment I ever made. I read somewhere that a legally transferable machine gun has never been used in a crime. And for the hair splitters ... that means legally transferable under the National Firearms Act
