    Carnival Cruise Lines plans to resume some cruises in August - would you go?

    Carnival plans to start cruising again in August. Bookings are high. I can't imagine going on a cruise in the near term. It's not just the threat of being sick, but the possibility of being trapped on the ship with no country allowing you to dock. But apparently not everyone thinks the same way.

    Even before Covid taking a cruise was the easy way to contract some kind of terrible communicable disease.

    But if the pandemic has taught me anything it is that people are by and large...idiots.

    /it didn't actually take the pandemic for me to know that people are idiots.

    If my safety could be assured via testing before boarding etc. I still wouldn't go on a cruise, but I wouldn't normally anyway. If it could be conducted in such a way that everyone on board was tested negative and did not leave the ship I would say why not.

    For that to work, I think you would have to pre-quarantine all the passengers for 2 weeks, then test them. Some of the cruisers may have just gotten off a plane where that could have just been infected. Maybe by August we will have a better way to predict who has it. I plan to set up an open bar on my patio which will now be referred to as "the Lido deck"

    There may be a win-win here. Have everyone going on a cruise injected with one of the experimental vaccines (plus some control placebos) and see if any of them work. People get a cruise and we advance the science

    I have been on many cruise's over the years and never gave it a second thought. Just like using air planes the travel to my favorite vacation destinations and/or staying in hotel which included continental breakfast... “the morning group frenzy feeding trough” realizing/opening my eyes these are all petri dishes full of how knows what. At this point in time I will not board another ship and/or travel by plane until I know there is some sort of guarantee our safety and health will protected!

    Great idea --- in fact so great it should be rapidly expanded to include:

    * All airlines, rail, and other forms of mass travel

    * All NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS professional sports events

    * All college football and basketball game except those with attention below cruise line capacities.

    * Public schools = talk about germ breeding factories!

    * All large industry and political conventions

    * Tour de France, Giro and Vuetla

    * World and Olympic championships

    Did I miss any?

    Cruise ships are so notoriously nasty, the CDC tracks them and has outbreak and sanitation databases.

    I wonder how many of those bookings are those looking to have a spouse "accidentally" fall overboard to collect on their life insurance policy?

    I'm sure the long quarantine has exacerbated many longstanding relationship incompatibilities.

    My wife refuses to go on a cruise with me because she cites all the cases of a couple going on a cruise and only the man returns. Geez, like I’m going to push her overboard! I’d be the first person they question, you know. So no, no cruises for me. 🙂

    A cruise in August will not be very much fun...….Imagine spending that money, and then being forced to wear a mask whenever you aren't in your cabin, and sitting far away from other people......Being in an inside, or ocean view cabin, will be a little like Hell.
    If your opinion differs from mine, ..........Too bad.

    Me either. Any type of “forced socialization” or “pre-canned” entertainment is not my cat style.

    I went on a cruise once, definitely have better things to spend my time and money on now and wouldn't even consider one now with the plague.

    Zero sympathy from me for anyone that get's sick or quarantined on a cruise now and the forsea-able future - natural selection serves the human species well.

    I was offered the chance to fly for work next week, I turned it down. If I travel for work I want it to be when restaurants are open and I don't have to wear a mask on a plane and order my dinner as take out. Especially when work pays for all meals and drinks.

    yeah difficult to understand.

    I've never been on a cruise and can't imagine ever wanting to but to each their own as far as liking them but;

    "possibility of being trapped on the ship with no country allowing you to dock."

    Right. Even if someone didn't care about getting sick (or was do stupid to put 2 and 2 together in that regard) and enjoyed cruises I'd think that would be a deal breaker in the short term.

    Yeah, I'm organizing a crew of people to go to a job site in North/South Dakota (no cases in the counties we'll be working in and they seem happy to have us) beginning of June.

    Two of the people will travel from SLC. I offered to pay for them to fly to Rapid City and rent a car or make the 2 day drive. It will be interesting to see what they choose.

    Personally, I'd be all about driving.
