Exactly. Government is starting to plan the aftermaths here in Italy and even when the emergency will be declared offically over ( we're looking at May) it will be an estimate of further 90-120 days before we will be able to resume to our nomal lives. That means still wear masks in shopping malls, keep your hands washed etc.

The thing is cruise ships, hotels, resorts will be under heavy scrutiny for a while. I guess new laws will pop out about mandatory sanitizing processes to be performed and certified in order to even keep their current operating licenses. I'm afraid the cruise market will be badly affected for a while, same for massive hotels like in Las Vegas. 3/4/5000 bedrooms and huge casinos, breathing the same air thousands others have been breathing, doesn't sounds very healthy. Truth is tho, humans are quick to forget,so you never know..

The majority of the U.S. (perhaps even the world's) population will be affected and I feel for every one of them. It will take a long time to recover from this.

Many knew a stock market correction was bound to happen. Nobody knew it would happen all because of a virus.

It was easy to have a false sense of security for folks in 1st-world countries that something like this would never happen since this type of crisis only happens to 3rd-world countries. It now certainly appears 1st-world countries are being affected even more.

With a strong economy, advanced technology, complacent attitude we were not prepared for anything like this at all!

This is looking like punch number two (of the 'one two punch') for us.

Never got back on solid footing after the "Great Recession". My wife's business has evaporated over the last two years as retail has gone down the toilet. And the final kick in the head--her 'fill the gap' job has now been terminated.

The only bright spot is that the health issues I have battled for the past ten years seem to have abated.

Welp, the state has extended unemployment benefits from 20 to 26 weeks for those whose jobs have been terminated by Covid-19. People like me who were unemployed before, and cannot find a job now that the government is recommending against face-to-face contact and meetings (you know, like job interviews) do not get that 6-week extension. Guess I'll have to look into becoming a grocer or something...

That's the stupid in realising that the point of "unemployment benefits" is to meet and greet, interview and exchange with future employers possible new employment. The governemnt shut us down. Nothing open, nothing allowed, six-feet distance and a crosswalk guard recruited to fine THOSE for handing out violations.

Unemployment person, "Have you been looking and proving you're looking for a job."

I've been asked by State and Federal Goverment to hunker down and NOT go outside.

    No logic.

I'm not worried yet, I've written my state representatives and governor to ask for action on this as I'm sure it was little more than an oversight in their action thus far...this whole thing has been moving SO quickly that everyone (even those in charge) are flying by the seat of their pants.

agree it makes sense to extend UI for folks already unemployed prior to COVID. I expect this will get fixed. There is a bit of chaos right now

I usually work hours in store / retail, and now I've been told that I will hardly get any more additional shifts. My actual contract is only ~5h/week, so now I simply have to resign to be able to have sufficient [extra] hours I've worked in the past year to grant me for the unemployment benefit scheme. May sound like a weird move but that's how the rules and regulations are where I live. Anyways, this is really a first world problem, compared to the fact that I'm sort of at "risk group" for the disease, so I will do my best to avoid catching it.

I've been here for a bit but haven't really visited nor posted much but this COVID-19 brought me back to check and see how everyone else is doing or handling the situation (since I don't have FB or any of those social media accounts).

I don’t have a job now, so I can’t pay the rent and can’t buy anything. Have to borrow money.

I don't believe he really said that.

I assume I could be called a whiner because of my situation. We lost a member of our small group at work, and we were supposed to get him replaced, probably not now for a long time. I am doing his duties, and also some of the duties of two other people that were told they could work from home. I'm getting many, many emails every day from them asking me to do their work. I put it off until I have my stuff done, but I am rapidly running out of time at the end of the day.

My boss says I can certainly "come to the pump" and work more hours for free if need be, but I refuse to put in extra hours while other people are home taking their kids for walks and binge watching Netflix.

Slight update--my lovely wife just landed a campaign manager's job for a Congressional race--so we're gonna be OK for a bit. Whew!

Ever been on one?....Much of what you say are just old wives tales and sour grapes....
Would you criticize people wanting to go see the Tour de France and fight the crowds at every stage?
