    I would never have thought.

Dolph Lundgren's background always cracks me up. Chemical Engineering degrees, awarded Fulbright Scholarship to MIT, multiple black belts... and lines like "I must break you" and "If he dies, he dies".

I did know that. Heard him on an NPR interview some months back. He had abandoned his schooling when Queen took off, but went back to school after the rock and roll career. Got his PhD at age 60.

    kris kristofferson

was a hell of an athlete, played football and rugby in college, and graduated summa cum laude. then won one of the most prestigious academic awards in the world, becoming a rhodes scholar at oxford.

next, and before he started his musical and acting career, spent a few years in the military --as a helicopter pilot, captain, and army ranger...incredible.

Freddy was a little "light in the loafers" as they used to say. I've always assumed that was what the name referenced.

    From Wikipedia:

In 1968, guitarist Brian May, a student at London's Imperial College, and bassist Tim Staffell decided to form a band. May placed an advertisement on the college notice board for a "Mitch Mitchell/Ginger Baker type" drummer; Roger Taylor, a young dental student, auditioned and got the job. The group called themselves Smile.[3]
While attending Ealing Art College, Tim Staffell became friends with Farrokh Bulsara, a fellow student who had assumed the English name of Freddie. Bulsara felt that he and the band had the same tastes and soon became a keen fan of Smile. In late 1970, after Staffell left to join the band Humpy Bong, the remaining Smile members, encouraged by Bulsara, changed their name to "Queen" and continued working together.[4] When asked about the name, Bulsara explained, "I thought up the name Queen. It's just a name, but it's very regal obviously, and it sounds splendid. It's a strong name, very universal and immediate. It had a lot of visual potential and was open to all sorts of interpretations. I was certainly aware of gay connotations, but that was just one facet of it
So yes it had to do with Freddie, but not it would seem in the way you may have thought.

I found out about May a few years ago when I saw him referred to as Dr. May somewhere. I assumed that it was one of those honorary doctorates in music or the arts or something that universities like giving out to celebrities, so I looked it up. Nope, a real PhD, with a successfully defended dissertation and everything. Another fact, he also made his guitar from scratch out of an old fireplace mantle and some motorcycle parts.

Anyway, keeping with the theme, the actress Mayim Bialik, who plays Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on "The Big Bang Theory", has a PhD in neuroscience herself.

I learned that last week when a friend was touring about Africa, and posted that little tidbit while there. Apparently a lovely little town.
