Hello all . . . been lurking these forums for years, finally had to register to ask a question! I'm 27 & live in California. Taking the summer off right now . . . going back to school this fall for a masters in social work.

I found the lounge trying to find five places to stick in my worthless two cents so I can post a new thread.

Been riding for a little over eight years. Started riding to lose weight. Lost 150 pounds in the first year and a half and have kept it off ever since.

I ride a 1984 univega superstrada in a single speed configuration. I ride 53/13 around town and 42/13 on longer climby rides. Mostly into long distance stuff. Longest ride to date was Bakersfield to Spooners Cove over two days. 125 miles to Santa Maria on day one and 50 up to the cove on day two.

I can't post a picture or a link to a picture of me or my bike in the welcome newbies to the forum thread because I don't have enough posts. Isn't it ironic. Don't you think?

    Bought a new bike today...

I just ordered my first real road bike and had to tell someone! For the past five years, I have been riding a Trek mountain bike and a 30 year old Schwinn 12 speed. Only on roads, really, and mostly for daily exercise - 7 or 8 miles at a time. Recently, I did a sprint duathalon, and bumped my average ride to 15 miles, all on my Schwinn, and knew I had to get something better.

After months of research and daydreaming, I decided that my minimum requirements were Schimano 105 shifters/deraileurs and less than 22 pounds. Unfortunately, my budget is $800.
Craigslist (hate it), Ebay (lost auctions)...there was always Bikesdirect.com, and I almost bought the Gravity Comp 20, but various forum feedbacks made me leary.

So...Performance is having this sale today...I bought the Scattante R507 for $810 (the 2010 model). At least I got to pick it up, try it out at the store (the 2011). I had to order it, and it will be mine to use in mid-July.

    I can't wait.

    Roger

    Age: 40
Sex: Ummm, my name is Gary and not Garitta.

Been riding since 13 years old when a doctor suggested cycling to combat knee problems I had during growing pains. My dad and I went out and bought a base Ross (had downtube shifters so it was ultra cool). Rode that frame till a dropout fell off while cutting inside coming out of curve in the Northbrook, IL velodrome. (There was blood).

Came here looking for reviews and information on Chinese carbon frames.

My main ride is a titanium (TST generic) frame with Campy Centaur that is much too big, hence the looking for a new frame.

Currently employed as a service engineer for MRI medical scanners. Before that was in the military for 15 years.

    Can't post a pic because I don't have 10 posts.

    Garitta,, Sorry Gary
There are numerous posts here about chinese Carbon frames...including Us. We bought one, Ok I will quit using royal plural, 2 bikes back. It was mysecond carbon frame the first being an EPX from Australia. I chose the frame that looked close to my original. Got it and measured and it was. Both held up fine there were no visible flaws in the chinese frame. The Epx had a yellow top coat so I couldn't tell. Both developed creaks in the bottom bracket within a year, that I could not get to cease. Both were destroyed by incidents without me being on the bike. Both of these events would have put a ding in the tube or bent the bottle holder. My latest frame, a supposed itialian build that looked suspiciously like some of the carbon posted on the manufactures page completely failed after hitting a dog. I noticed no difference in any of the frames and didn't have the last one long enough to see if it creaked. My next frame is def a Ti.

I would post a pic but I am ugly

    Hello!

I just signed up the other day so I can get more information on nutrition and cycling. I work for Rabobank N.A. and the bank is a big sponsor of the Tour of California. In an effort to encourage the employees to embrace the sport, the bank will reimburse us for event registration, provide us with a jersey and offer group cycling.

I rode quite a bit in the late 80s, early 90s and was eager to get back into it. I picked up a Specialized Allez on Craig's List and I've been training for a few months now. My first ride is a 62 mile course in late September.

I look forward to hanging out and learning what I can!
