    The Helen Hunt Phenomenon

It sort of raised up in the smart vs. beautiful thread below.

Here's something odd I've noticed, and I don't believe this can be said of any other female public figure:

Men find her tremedously sexy, for reasons I don't even think we can explain. Maybe we have a Helen Hunt gene. But:

Women look at her, and see this kind of plainish woman with a beak and mousy hair, and say: You've lost your mind. If SHE'S hot, what are the rest of us worried about?

Why is this? Is there any other public woman out there than men love and women not only aren't threatened by, they wonder if men are nuts for not seeing how plain and unattractive she is?

Girl next door, my friend. She's the girl next door. She's everything men really want, but rather than admit it, they chase after the supermodels and bimbos instead.

agree. i particularly enjoy julianne moore, also.

One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know.

    not me

I can't stand her, looking at her or seeing her awful acting. Not even close to my type, and extremely over rated in my opinion. She grates on my nerves.

My favorites would be types like Sophia Loren (as an ideal), Lucy Liu, Kirstie Alley, Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta Jones, Selma Hayek -- the dark haired sexy types.

Is this phenomenon true? You're already 0-2 based on the women replying here.

I think Mohair's girl next door comment is true. HH appears to be intelligent and down-to-earth. She doesn't grate on my nerves like other Hollywood types who seem excessively high-maintenance, shallow, or ditsy.
Let us rephrase: Would you ever in a roomful of good-looking women single out HH and say: "Man, I bet the guys like her! Whew!"

Let me ask further: Do you know of any woman who's THREATENED by HH in that 'threatened' way women get when a real hot doxy walks in the room?

And that financial reporter chick on cable -- the Italian-looking one who gives the impression of lolling in bed till MOMENTS before going on the air. She's your type.

I wouldn't think so. I consider myself a plain vanilla male with average predictable taste, and Demi has always left me cold. You know, you WANT to think she's all that, but after a minute you realize she just isn't.

Yes, Maria Bartiromo. But she's not an actress; she's smarter than any of us and gorgeous.

Right. I was pointing her out as your prototype for female perfection.

I like the saucy 'lolling in bed' impression she gives. Like we BORE her.

Helen Hunt is not attractive at all. For the girl next door look I like Elisabeth Shue, man is she hot. Her character in The Saint is the perfect woman, a super hot scientist. I don't like Demi Moore, she needs to gain some weight, she looks like a skeleton as of late!

Helen Hunt? Really? I just lost a measure of respect for you that no amount of bourbon consumption can overcome. ;)

I think she's about as perfect as it gets, not knowing her on a personal level, of course. Should could be a total b**** for all we know. We can dream, though.

My guess is that she works 18 hours a day, so there couldn't be much of a meaningful relationship. Therefore, long ago I decided it would be futile to stalk her. ;-)

I'm with you there. Julianne Moore is a lot more sultry than Helen Hunt, but still girl next door.

Fine, then I don't look like Helen Hunt, but I still think she's an attactive woman, in a "real person" sort of way. Demi's a bit to plastic looking to me. Drop dead gorgeous is Selma H. or Catherine ZJ. BTW - I have a good friend who is the spittin' image of CZJ.

Geez, suonata - it's time to talk about boys.........

    Richard Gere
    Adrian Brody
    Michael Douglas
    Sean Connery

I always thought she was pretty too!

What about Jodie Foster? Is she in the same boat is HH?

jodie foster in "contact" sealed the deal for me. i'm a huge sagan fan, and although they butchered the book, the movie was spectacular in it's own right.

plus, jodie is extremely intelligent and well educated, multi-lingual, and hot.

I used to date a guy that adored Jody Foster. He kept asking me if she was gay, because it would just break his heart if she was........
