    Here we go again

Tis the season. I have been watching this tree die for a few years, old age as far as I can tell, I knocked it down today, not as simple as you might think in the woods. I dropped it EXACTLY where I planned and within 2 hours had it butchered and kind of piled up. After I was finished, I headed for the grocery store to but some beer. I forgot to take my hard-hat off. People were pointing and laughing, go figure, (consider that a lot of them know me) It is red maple and splits BEAUTIFULLY with a maul!

    Impressive!

But the only thing I need to chainsaw ‘round here are the zombies...

Impressive but we know you, so it was expected, that perfection.

Debris is your best friend, like a wingman at a wedding. Wood chips on your front and shoulder areas, accompanying tops of shoes and maybe some lodged in facial hair. Does the trick.

    Props.

Pretty sure it had something to do with the Darwin fish on the front of my hard hat.

Dropping a tree where you want it, in a fairly dense woodlot is not always easy, hell, sometimes just getting it all the way to the ground is good enough!

Cutting down a tree is easy. The hard part is cutting it UP.
    Insert something clever here:

Sometimes, unless you are in a thick wood lot. Then, not so much in my experience. Blocking it out is easy, the saw does the work, or course, then you have to split it and haul it, stack it haul it in the house, burn it and dispose of the ashes periodically.

I've been told that wood heat warms you twice.

Good to see the old darwin sticker. :-)

Should probably add a Safety Third to the back.

I almost put one of those "Engage Safety Squint" stickers on my hat at work, but thought best not to. I will say props to you for wearing the PPE when working at home. Chainsaws and trees are both unforgiving and deserving of lots of respect.

    At least.

Load it, unload it, split it, stack it, bring it in, burn it, clean chimney, probably some other things.

The bring it in part isn't always warm. Sometimes it's fricking cold and wet out there.

Knock it down, block it out, split it, load it, stack it, bring it inside, sweep the floor, throw it in the stove, sweep the floor, clean the ashes, sweep the floor. Oh, and don't forget cleaning up the mess I made just coming inside.

Thanks, that woodshed was a watershed point in my life!
