    I *Love* Godzilla Movies...

No, not the sh*tty-ass Matthew Broderick American one. I'm talkin' the Japanese ones.

To wit, I watched one recently called Godzilla vs King Ghidorah.

There's a scene in it where US and Japanese soldiers are fighting on an island in World War 2. In the midst of the fighting, a big T-Rex-looking dinosaur automagically shows up... it's Godzilla pre-exposure to H-bomb radiation (those wacky 1950s nuclear tests, don'cha know).

Anyhoo, pre-radiation Godzilla for some reason feels like defending the Japanese soldiers by stomping on the US soldiers (propaganda, yup). The US soldiers can't stop him with their rifles, of course, but the offshore US Navy destroyers shell Godzilla and bring him down (temporarily).

As Godzilla slumps to the ground, wounded, what does someone say?:

MH: I want to go like my Dad did - peacefully, in his sleep, not screaming in terror like his passengers.

SS: COMPLACENCY IS LETHAL. VOTE in November.

Homer: I believe that the children are our future. Unless we stop them now.

Plat: I'd rather fellate a syphilitic goat than own a Cervelo.

Seam: Saw Bjork poop onstage back in the day. It blew my teenage mind.

I remember my brother and I watching "Godzilla vs. The Thing" on our black & white TV when we were kids in the early 70's. We loved it! Fun times, fun times.

I used to look forward to Creature Feature on Saturdays when I was a kid. Lots of Godzilla movies. It came on right after Kung Fu Theater.

What was the deal with the two tiny women who looked like geishas? Didn't they have some kind of mystical powers or something, maybe predicting when Godzilla would show up? My memory is a little fuzzy since it's been about 40 years since I watched those movies.

My monster movie memory is a little bit fuzzy but I believe the two tiny women were with "Mothra". Just sayin'.

As a youngster, I always looked forward to Monster Week on the local UHF channel. Gamura was a decent monster.
I never was much of a sci-fi fan like the neighbor kids, but I dig Ultra Man.

Just picked up a Blu-ray 2fer featuring "Gamera" (the flying turtle). There's something enjoyable about watching these low budget, slap dash productions that I find refreshing. The story logic moves at a quick pace so you don't have to dwell too much on the story. I just wanna see some guys fighting in rubber suits.

    There's Another One Coming

Saw a trailer before Christmas. It showed a bunch of paratroopers being dropped into Los Angeles, which had been taken over by Godzilla. The trailer didn't give much away but it looked to be lot like the Matthew Broderick one.

I think the new one is supposed to be out in May. I don't know if it'll be any good or not but it's already ahead of that other POS just because Godzilla looks like Godzilla instead of an angry iguana.

There's nothing like the original ones, I always try and catch them with the kids, especially the one with dorky baby Godzilla.

The new one shows a little promise, at least his roar is legit.

In reference to the Assault on Mt Mitchell...

Creaky's really into turtles, so for him, Gamera must be an object of near-worship.

    I mean, that's one bad-ass mutha of a turtle.

They kinda punk Ghidorah in the later Godzilla movies, though. Early on, Ghidorah is so powerful it takes Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan to stop him. Later on, Godzilla can beat Ghidorah one-on-one, and can fight even 'Mecha-Ghidorah' to a standstill.

I suspect PED usage on Godzilla's part. Lance probably sold 'im some stuff.

Ultraman? Spectre Man? Gotta give us more to go on, that could describe a lot of Japanese TV shows.

To me the best movie fight would be Godzilla vs. The Flesh Gordon Monster

    NSFW

Great voiceover work by Craig T. Nelson.
