    kids having kids.... WTF....

Recently heard something at work about a co-workers daughter that totally blew my mind. She had recently asked for some time off to deal with a family issue, but never said what it was. Found out her daughter is about to have a baby. The daughter just turned 13. OMGWTF?!? The girl was got pregnant when she was 12. How the hell does that happen?

I should have expected this.... yeah, I know exactly how it happens (and had several boyfriends before I realized Im gay), but seriously, how does that happen when your 12? When I was 12 my friends and I had barely grown out of the boys are gross cootie shots age, and a quick kiss on the lips was a huge deal.

My wife used to work with court-involved teenage girls. The typical grandmother was in her 30s................

It happens the same way at 12 as it happens at 20. I have two sons who are going through puberty. One is 11, and it started three years ago. The other is 8.

    While it is

definitely DISTURBING, I'm not sure if I think it's terribly surprising.

Didn't you know folks having sex in middle school? I certainly did; it was the early-into-drinking-and-smoking-pot crowd, mostly.

Sad all ways around, and a big argument for QUALITY sex education fairly early in life.

Yeah, kids today man........12 is the new 16 it seems. Girls start their cycles at 11 now. Still, boys were definitely not very interesting back then!!

I stuck my fingers in my ears and started going "la la la la" at the mention of a hoo-hoo. Then the condom thing got mentioned, and I was all like, wtf am I going to need those for?

when i worked at planned parenthood, it wasn't unusual to have 13-14 year olds coming in for birth control cuz they were having sex or planning to have sex very soon. some had been active for a couple of years, but were only coming in then because they could get stuff without their parents finding out. i was amazed that many hadn't gotten an STD or pregnant by then. this was about 10 years ago. things have actually gotten better in recent years with teen preg. rates and sexual activity going down, but it still happens.

There is a rather infamous video from the 1970's - "Sex Education For Trainables." If you've seen it, you'll definitely remember it.

At the annual car show in Nashville last year, we stopped at a garage sale. Saw what looked like a very pregnant 11 year old. Yikes. But then, we are in Tennessee
Whenever the legislators endeavour to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence - John Locke
