    Len's College Football Championship Playoffs

The he!! with the BCS....I've decided to have my own playoffs. Here is how it will work.

1.) I'll start with the final regular season BCS rankings of the top 12 teams.

    1 - OSU
    2 - LSU
    3 - Va Tech
    4 - Oklahoma
    5 - Georgia
    6 - Missouri
    7 - USC (Socal)
    8 - Kansas
    9 - WVU
    10 - Hawaii
    11- Arizona State
    12 - Florida

You can argue with the rankings, but these are the top 12 teams.

2.) Rounds will work as follows:

First round (In real life this would be played on Dec 15th) will be:

8 vs 12 Kansas vs Florida
5 vs 9 Georgia vs WVU
6 vs 10 Missouri Vs Hawaii
7 vs 11 USC vs Arizona State

Second Round (In real life, this would be played on Jan 1) will be:

Game 5) Winner of 8/12 vs 1 - OSU (Rose Bowl)
Game 6) Winner of 5/9 vs 4 - Oklahoma (Fiesta Bowl)
Game 7) Winner of 6/10 vs 3 - Va Tech (Orange Bowl)
    Game 8) Winner of 7/11 vs 2 - LSU ( Sugar Bowl)

Semifinals (on Jan 8th IRL) :

Game 5 winner Vs Game 6 Winner
Game 7 Winner vs Game 8 Winner

Championship Game (IRL on Jan 18th)

    2 winners from Semifinal

3.) On RBR. We will vote:

a.) On round 1....games 1 thru 4.....in this thread. Pick your 4 first round winners
b.) Tuesday Morning, I'll add up votes and post the winners and the round 2 games.
c.) We'll then vote on Tuesday for the 2nd round games.
d.) Wed Morning, I'll post the results of round 2 and the semifinal games
e.) We'll vote on the semifinals on Wednesday
f.) Thursday morning, I'll post the Semifinal winners
g.) We'll vote on Thursday and thru Friday Noon on the winner of the final
h.) I'll announce the winner of the championship on Friday afternoon.

I'll also try to keep track of who gets the most right.

    So....

If you are interested.....give me your 4 picks for round 1.

Florida, Georgia, Who gives a crap, USC.

I don't think the Patriots could have gotten through the SEC undefeated this year.

    By only subjective measures.

But according to your rules here goes:

    Picks in bold.

8 vs 12 Kansas vs Florida
5 vs 9 Georgia vs WVU
6 vs 10 Missouri Vs Hawaii
7 vs 11 USC vs Arizona State

If this were to be a real playoff system, we sure would find out in the first round who was a pretender and who was real. I think Kansas, Hawaii & WVA get exposed.

It's interesting........if you look at the BCS, there is a hugh drop between the 12th and 13th team (In the BCS calculated # which is an amalgamation of a couple of polls, strength of schedule and a few other things in the computer algorithm)........I can't think of one other team that belongs in this playoff.......maybe that says this would work.

I've got the cinderella for the first round. Seen too many Timmy Chang interceptions at 3 a.m. not to pull for them.

Hey, I only wanted them to get a shot. In Len's system they do and they pay the price. Plus they're crazy.

So....now we know why they dont win the big game...practicing passing a turd doesnt help you win football games...

Well, it's worked 12 out of 12 times this year. But let's get this thread back on topic for Len.

I don't watch college ball but the only thing I would change is the matchups. I like how teh NFL pairs playoff opponents. To simplify, the highest ranked team plays the lowest rank team, and they work their way up to the middle. This way the two best teams remain on opposite ends of the bracket and have a good chance of meeting up.

    5 vs 12
    6 vs 11
    7 vs 10
    8 vs 9

    etc.

Maybe it could be split into 3 groups of 4 teams each and the top teams of each group would advance, along with the best placed 2nd place team in the group? And they could play in a semi final.

    Group 1: (1)OSU, (4)Oaklahoma, (7)USC, (10)Hawaii.
    Group 2: (2)LSU, (5)Georgia, (8)Kansas, (11)Arizona State.
    Group 3: (3)Va Tech,(6)Missouri, (9)WVU, (12)Florida.

    Or,
    Group 1: (1), (6), (7) and (12)
    Group 2: (2), (5), (8) and (11)
    Group 3: (3), (4), (9) and (10)

Each team play each other once and the group winners along with the best placed 2nd placed team go into the semis in a draw where perhaps the 2nd placed team cannot face the winner of the group it was from.

I dunno, it just struck me as I was thinking about soccer.

But for picks Len, I'd have to say USC, Florida, Georgia and I hope Hawaii wins.

5 vs 9 Georgia vs WVU
6 vs 10 Missouri vs Hawaii
7 vs 11 USC vs Arizona State

That orks for a 16 team playoff.

My goal was to reard teh top 4 seeds ....so if favorites win the first round, the 1 plays 8, 2 plays 7, 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5.

    I'm the commish........it's my poll.......live with it!

LOL, that is so cool. I like them even more now. I bet the fans love it, every team should do something fun like that.

Anyone know what they are chanting?

MO over Hawaii is certainly the conventional wisdom. Unfortunately "conventional wisdom" is exactly the problem with the current BCS system. Someone picks the top two teams based on "conventional wisdom" rather than actual game play.

Remember last year when Oklahoma was going to "expose" Boise State?
