    Neil Peart

Died today from brain cancer, 67 years young. Truly a sad day.

    Sad for sure.
I'd never heard of glioblastoma before a couple of years ago, now every couple of months someone, even just famous people, passes away from it.

Greatest drummer of all time, or damn close?

    I say yes.

Neil was a man dedicated to his craft.

I was fortunate to attend the band's final performance at the LA Forum. Normally Neil would not join Alex and Geddy at the front of the stage and would just nod and take a bow from behind his drum fortress and exit out the back. However, that night, he joined his band mates front and center. I had a sad feeling it was the end of Rush performing as a band.

Those three Canadian lads a deep had a special bond that had survived many a decade that saw other bands breakup and fade into obscurity.

Rest In Peace, Professor and Ghost Rider.

Greatest rock and roll drummer of all time... there I would say yes.

Nooooo......Can't believe this...No idea he was ill. RIP Neil. Saw him/Rush several times in the past. Was just recently thinking about Clockwork Angles and wanting to get it on CD but apparently hard to find on that format?? So anyway, dang. Well, will have a reason to smile when I hear thunder.....play on Neil.
So I tuned the Larrivee, drop D, then DADGAD.

Didn't even know he was sick, so this was a shock. ****ing hell.

He seemed to have the glioblastoma for a while, it's usually pretty fast.

Anyway. Another painful loss. Incredible talent both with drums and lyrics.

Evidently he died three days ago, but his death was just announced.

Stewart Copeland, longtime drummer for The Police said he was the 'most air-drummed drummer of all time'.

I can't think of any other Rock & Roller I would mourn any more than Mr. Peart. Granted, I've listened to more Zeppelin and Floyd than Rush over the years, but it seemed Neil was half a generation before them. Way too soon, even if he wasn't writing or playing anymore.

I've said this for a long time - if I could invite any band to come hang out and play at my birthday party, 'aka Spicoli celebration', then I would pick Rush. Those guys seemed to be so down to earth and genuine best friends with each other.

RIP Neil. Hope you're jamming with Buddy and a multitude of others right now.

I saw them live on their Moving Pictures tour in the early 80s. One of the members of the side kick band was sick so Rush played for over two hours. One of the best concerts I've been to, and I've seen some good ones.

Listen to any of their albums. Hard to believe a sound that big could come from three guys. Crazy talent and versatility.

Back to Neil Peart... I was never Rush's #1 fan, but when I read today about all the musicians and bands that mention Neil as a strong influence in their development and music, I was amazed.

I always knew Neil was one of the best drummers of all time... but I didn't realize how much he inspired and shaped such a wide range of the musicians we listen to, in many genres.

    RIP Neil.

I agree with Spike; growing up in upstate NY, Rush was almost a local band, and was played incessantly. I found Geddy Lee's voice somewhere between 'irritating' and 'grating', so I certainly was never interested in actually seeing Rush live, but I have to admit that Neil's drumming was great.

With all due respect to the departed Mr. Peart, as well as the excellent musicians Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, I too could just never get past Lee's voice.

And yet, I (a straight guy) had two Communards records, bitd. Go figure.
Donald Trump has never had a wife he didn't cheat on.

Donald Trump has never won a popular vote in a governmental election.

There are over 11 million covid cases in the United States (as of November 14th), ten months after Donald Trump said it was "totally under control," and that "it's gonna be just fine."

And I, as a gay male, have none........

I once joked about creating the world's most annoying rock band, with a trio of lead singers; Geddy Lee, Jon Anderson, and Jimmy Sommerville (maybe add Claus Nomi if you wanted to push it). They would also be annoying to dogs....

No mention of Axl Rose? That would be my first choice for this band.

Fred Durst. Premiere douchenozzle of his time.

Oh, and David Lee Roth was always 110% punchable too.

A great tactician of drumming science for sure.
As a young drummer, spent hours learning every note of YYZ.
Grew out of Rush mostly as many men do when they realize that they can interact with females, but was sad to hear that he passed away.

Many would call him the greatest, many would argue against it, some would put him Rushmore and others wouldn't.

I am in the wouldn't crowd. I need to feel a groove, not a metronome.

Saw the Roll the Bones tour at Maple Leaf Gardens... Neil's 10-15min Drum solo segment was the greatest live drumming I had seen, and has not yet been surpassed for me since. RIP
