But as Sean Connery will tell you, you can bring a knife to a gun fight, if when you run out the door another guy has a tommy gun.
In the time of battle you don't rise to the occasion you resort to the level of your conditioning...

And it's a wrap. I never thought that I would get emotional about a log splitter. A friend called me last week and informed me of a clearance sale at Fleet Farm. 1300 dollar log splitter, they were selling for 900, clearance sale for 749, with an additional 25% off for buying clearance item and the kid on the floor informed me that if I got a Fleet Farm credit card, I would get another 10% off, that brought the price to 506! I bit the bullet and am the proud owner of a brand new, 25 ton log splitter. After looking on Craigslist for current pricing on splitters and finding NONE listed I figured I could easily sell it for 350. BUT, I texted a good friend first and asked if he wanted it for 250. He has borrowed it many times and swore he didn't need to own one. He immediately said YES. He just picked it up and as I watched it head down the driveway, I kind of choked up. I used that splitter for over 30 years, it's on the 3rd engine. I just put a larger pulley on the engine and new belt to speed it up a bit. I reminded him that he didn't need to buy it to use my splitter, I would lend him my new one, any time. (sales is not my strong suit.)
    Of course I'm sure...that doesn't mean I'm right.....

Why all those numbers on their jerseys?

    Is that a triage thing?

First use, 2 bucket loads which would have taken 45 minutes to split with the old one, took me 15 with the new one, it also went through a chunk I have had sitting there for a couple of years because I couldn't split it. Because the beam is 10 inches higher, I can work standing up straight so it's MUCH easier on my back. It also tips up to split vertically as the pretty much all do now.

And if you'd sell me that Waterford of yours for $300 the new splitter would be free. No?

Hmmmmmm one, or both of us is guilty of using flawed logic.

Btw, found another dead standing red elm, big one too. Probably 4 bucket loads. On the ground and butchered, at least blocked out, with no collateral damage. I am rapidly running out of room. I might have room for one more row, on the west end after this, maybe a row and a half.

    Yeah, nice looking wood.

But TOG doesn't use his arms...he puts his brain to work.

"if I only had a brain........." kicker is, each of the first 3 blocks probably weigh more than I do. Slogging around in the calf deep snow doesn't really help much either. 33 to 36 degrees today so it was wet and heavy, of course, I was way over dressed to boot.
