NNC Brifter - Lame or not

Since this was suggested in the components forum, I thought I'd bring it to a poll.

It reduces the amount of syllables that I need to say while accurately getting my point across.

    You gotta vote, fuj.

Help me out. It's a real horse race at this point, 1 for brifter (me), 2 against.

    I voted “not lame”.

Now, I’m going to eat some Tex-Mex, watch Brangelina in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Later on, I might get crunk, sleep in tomorrow and enjoy a late brunch...

Portmanteaus have been around for a while. Embrace the brifter.

personally, I don't use the word brifter.

but, others are free to do so without receiving a lecture on my semantic preferences.

You see, it's like this: I was in a bike shop one time buying cables. The guy behind the counter was kind of inattentive when he asked what kind of cable I needed. He said "Like...brake, or shifter?" I told him that I needed a Shimano 105 shifter cable. Befuddled, again he asked "Like...shifter or brake?" I said "Brifter," and his eyes lit up as he chuckled "I've never heard that before." But, he knew exactly what I was talking about, and got me set up with exactly what I needed. Since that time, I'll often use the term "brifter," to bike shop guys, as it gets the point across in a clear, concise manner. Therefore, not lame.

    Brifters gotta brift. Or not.

But, ehh, I don't really care. I still like downtube shifters.

Does this mean double-butted spokes are now dubokes?

    And disc brakes are dakes?

    Wide rims are wims?

Maybe this really is a lame word trend.

I never say "can't." It is "cannot."
Mapie is a conventional looking former Hollywood bon viveur, now leading a quiet life in a house made of wood by an isolated beach. He has cultivated a taste for culture, and is a celebrated raconteur amongst his local associates, who are artists, actors, and other leftfield/eccentric types. I imagine he has a telescope, and an unusual sculpture outside his front door. He is also a beach comber. The Rydster.

The committee to name the combination shifter brake actuators had two choices:

    Shake -- shifter brake

    Brifter -- brake shifter

The word shake was deemed to be even lamer than brifter.
