    Paging TerryB...

Are you okay, you're not in China right now are ya???

If I remember correctly, this is the province that you work in, correct?

This is truly tragic...900 kids in a middle school that collapsed, all presumed dead.

    I am in NM thankfully.

Although I normally work in Dalian (far to the east) Intel does have a plant in Chengdu, Sichuan, 60 miles from the epicenter. I was supposed to go there on my last trip, but it didn't work out. I have been watching our internal site updates all morning, not a lot of devastation in the city but the surrounding areas appear to have been blasted. Power and communications are widely disrupted, but for some reason the Intenet came through largely unscathed.

As always, getting information out of China is a real test. I'll bet this will be a big one in terms of damage and loss of life, just like the Tangshan earthquake in 1976. Although this region is perhaps not as densly populated, being on the edge of the mountains.

There was a second, 5-ish quake around Beijing as well. Not known whether it is unique or related. One also in the 5 range near Taiwan.

Get's me thinking about that "executive service apartment" I have lined up for next January on the 20 millionth floor of a high-rise.
