Please don't hate me for starting this

    Food specialists come in her(e)

Does anyone else have a great deal of difficulty maintaining their weight? It's no secret, I am small, 5 foot 5, and small bones, but for the past 3 or 4 years, I have had a horrible time maintaining my weight. I managed to get all the way to 127 this winter but now, with being able to get back out on the road, I am struggling to stay above what I consider my minimum acceptable weight or 123.

Trying to eat healthy, (mostly fruits, veggies and clean protein (fish, poultry some beef)) it is hard to consume enough calories.

What can I do? I eat as much as I can comfortably, (love yogurt and cheese, don't much like bread, but pasta is ok)

I am active, I pretty much never stop moving.
    Of course I'm sure...that doesn't mean I'm right.....

you need to speak with a nutritionist supervised by your Doc. There are many reasons why caloric/nutritional uptake could be challenging.

    BTW, I hate you.

For being 5 foot 5? That's not fair!

    My secret: cut out beer.

For some reason, if I cut out beer for a month or so, I can eat whatever I want and maintain my weight. In the scheme of things, I'd rather poke hot needles in my eyes than cut out beer.

Therefore, I don't maintain my weight.

    Hope this helps.

If U moved to Jupiter, you would be heavier but shorter at the same time. Until Musk or Branson start booking seats, BACON covered, BACON infused, BACON wrapped, BACON stuffed, BACON cake, BACON donuts and a diet Pepsi.

a beer has like what, 250 calories? My software tells me I ride and burn 1500 to 2500 calories almost every day, I would have to
drink a LOT of beer, way more than my liver can handle!
for example after I rode I had a chicken/cranberry sandwich on whole wheat... then I raked and cleaned up about an acre, moved some heavy equipment and went to town to get some beer. Dinner was 3 chicken salad sandwiches, and 2 beers, then a whole sleeve of fig newtons then a bowl of moose tracks ice cream and I am eyeing up another sandwich.

I almost never eat anything before 2 pm. I know that is not optimal but that what my body prefers.
    Of course I'm sure...that doesn't mean I'm right.....

Eat breakfast young man! Try some small snacks like almonds or pistachios for breakfast, maybe a boiled egg and an avocado etc. If you skip breakfast maybe some fruit, you know when you wake up you've essentially fasted and your body needs some fuel to help kick start the day right?

this all started when I quit drinking 3 cups of coffee with 1/2 and 1/2 every morning about 3 years ago. I lost 10 pounds over the next year but have been stable at 120 to 125 since then. For my height and build, 120 is not unreasonable is it? That puts my BMI at about 20 which is supposedly normal by all I read.

Any chance of me getting taller?

BTW, I still drink coffee, but black only. Long story about that transition, but trust me when I say, leaving a insulated mug of coffee with 1/2 and 1/2 in a car at 100 degrees for a weekend changed my mind!

I've been trying, I am just not hungry until afternoon. It also doesn't help that I really don't feel hunger unless I have eaten.

Supplement this bacon diet with lots of pizza. Large pizzas, and eat till you can't move, preferably right before sleep.

But seriously, oatmeal for breakfast, with some fruit, dried or fresh, and walnuts or some sort of nut added. Easily digested and will hold well till lunch.

Problem with this plan is all the talk about not eating before exercise to burn fat and lose weight. As much as I like black coffee, you need to supplement it.
Maybe some peanut butter and raisins or dried cranberries on toast. Tastes good washed down with coffee.

HTFU and eat in the morning.

Your problem is common in your age bracket. Diminished appetite, problems putting on weight. If you want to put on weight, eat more, and do what it takes to get yourself to eat more over the course of a day. Eating more will expand your stomach, making it easier to eat more over time.

I'm in the same boat, I'm 6'4" any my normal walking around weight is about 172. I feel best racing at around 168 so I easily drop 4 lb before raceday by changing my diet slightly. I got the flu a month ago and I haven't been able to exercise for the last 4 weeks at all, and I am up about 4 lb. I eat a lot. I generally have a late breakfast (9:00 or so) because my stomach doesn't like food first thing in the morning. I eat a large lunch, a snack around 3, a large dinner, and then I have a beer and chips before bed, or cookies and milk (depending on my mood). I'm up to about 176 with no exercise for a month, but it will disappear as soon as I start exercising again. I think some of us just have a magic metabolism?

There's something about beer, with me at least, that's beyond the calories. Sugar alcohol? Something. But beer calories (sugar types, glycemic stuff?) puts weight in my midsection faster than if I was eating the same calories of pizza, potato chips, etc.

I'm not that tall, so putting on even a few pounds makes me feel like a lard a**. I don't need a scale, I can tell I'm overweight when I bend over and I can feel my belly pushing at my waistband.

My biggest annoyance is that ANY weight I put on goes in my lower gut, nowhere else. I'm very careful with what I eat these days, as I have a 9-5, a wife, and a young son, with another on the way. Not as much time as I used to have for long bike rides, which tend to keep one slim. Now I'm just mainly commuting to my office.

I have never had good flexibility, years of competitive sports without enough warming up/cool down. I've had stiff hip flexors since college, when I played on bad astro turf, before they improved it.

Sitting at a desk all day, no matter how often I get up, has made them even more stiff. I also have HORRIBLE posture from slouching in my chair. I swear I've gotten shorter, that's how bad my posture is. Ugh.
