....two days early in DC. First fixie ride of the year. I'd had almost forgotten what a pleasure it is.

    vile weeds

My house was surrounded by the damn things. Last summer I covered them over with 6 tons of river rock with a barrier layer. Damn things are pushing up behind the barrier and right next to the house foundation. So I sprayed them with Round Up. Zero effect. Didn't even turn a leave brown. I'm gonna chop them off next and then spray again.

Yes, yesterday was the first fair weather ride of the season, did a few winter rides. Of course a car had to buzz me at 45 mph, entire road wide open and the driver decides coming within 2 feet of me was the prudent thing to do. Might even get out again today.

    Yesterday sucked (relatively speaking):

7:20am- awakened by a phone call from plumber with a sob story about why he can't come over and do the work, meaning John took day off for nothing.
7:30am- marital dispute ensues that lasts all morning re: money and contractors etc.
9am-5pm- endless reports and minutes to type up- standard crap, plus phone call from Dad asking me to chauffer Mom to a wake
5pm- another big box arrives from mother-in-law, stuff from the attic
7pm- expensive haricut that ends up being WAY shorter than expected Just not used to it.

Yeah so spring is off to a weird start.

Whan that Aprill, with his shoures soote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote
And bathed every veyne in swich licour,

5 Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the Ram his halfe cours yronne,
    And smale foweles maken melodye,
10 That slepen al the nyght with open eye-
    (So priketh hem Nature in hir corages);
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages
And palmeres for to seken straunge strondes
This old anvil has cracked alot of hammers

Thanks. At least the focus wasn't on the rusty axle nut. I imagine the shot would look better with one of Hickey's bikes.

    Looks good.

BTW Miss M was wondering how crazy the MUTs around DC are getting (this just after we saw another rider on our 50 miler today).

It was pretty nice today. I did an 82 mile ride and got my legs ripped off by two guys whose total weight was about 285 lbs.

    Peepers

It is officially spring in my neck of the woods when the peepers are out. And they are ayt, very loud around the low lying waters and small wetlands along the roads that I ride. Out again today, same route. Overall a very successful week from an exercise standpoint. Just need to keep it going.

The peepers have been out here for a few weeks, but they've really kicked into high gear lately. The weather today was fantastic. Took a few photos of birds for work, then kicked off early. Read a magazine on the deck while taking pictures of more birds, then took a nap. It was a pretty good day.

Little chilly here today, probably mid 30's in the country outside of town. Came down a shady hill and hit some ice, talk about pucker factor. I'd rather get road rash than scuff my new bike!

No flowers here for a while I reckon, looks like only 40's for nest week too.

It's never good on the MUT the first really warm day. Lot's of crazy out there. Yesterday's commute home at 78F was just nuts. Yesterday was also when the MVT over Humpback Bridge was routed back from the detour. Still a bit of a squeeze where the bridge stonework hasn't been completed. Only a 50 miler? You guys gettin old?
