STORM SANDY the Perfect Storm New Enland Folks

Sandy is going to hit us Monday or Tuesday almost to the day when New York and New England was hit by the Halloween Nor'Easter 2011. The storm will come ashore during high tide. They say it could be a $2 billion storm and cripple the North East for weeks - perhaps months.

What's your preparation? A good swim with my neighbors?

National Weather service is saying a 70% chance of it hitting the east coast. 2 different paths at this point. 1 hits in Delaware, the other Maine.

Until they know where it hits, it could be anything from a mild annoyance to all out crazy.

It also may afect the election.

Sure sounds like the storm could be a bad one. I always worry about my mother who lives in North Carolina when these things hit, even though NC usually doesn't bear the brunt of those storms.

I would like to have a Tropical Storm come visit Colorado. Mix in a little cold air from Canada this time of year and Front Range skiing would be epic for the entire season.

    Could be interesting!

If it hits farther north then we will not get snow--but if it hits around Delaware, we will likely get snow.

And like last Halloween, there are still a lot of leaves on the trees so there will be carnage if we get a heavy wet snow like last time, in addition to gale force winds that they are predicting.

Imma preparing the snowblower and getting some wood stacked, because the power will be going out regardless.

I feel guilty for seeing 80-degree temps, nothing but sun and 0% chance of rain through the extended forecast here in AZ.

Well, I don't really feel guilty but I thought I would at least make a feeble attempt.

We know a family that is presently on a cruise in the Carribbean and are supposed to be at Castaway Cay tomorrow. My guess is they are in the middle of this storm right now. The mother in that family is type A. She's going to be pissed that a hurricane ruined part of her vacation.
I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this.

I was thinking the same thing. That John Denver's full of $hit, man.

Buy a generator LOL. Last Octobre residents couldn't even access their own driveways let alone main roads due to trees [still fully in bloom] completely down everywhere. We had 980,000 residents [not people but homes and businesses] out of power for almost 2 weeks solid. Fuel stations shut down. Cellular towers inoperable. No retail open. Zilch. Stats said we were 88% off line - in the entire state. The people who had generators couldn't access fuel to fill them. Chain saws muted as they ran out of fuel. Elderly couldn't access pharmacies for meds and without power no refrigeration.

All in all, I spent a week with couple dozen neighbors, thirty something chain saws with spare chains and loads of fuel cutting our way out. LOL. Even have 4 five foot tank pry bars.

From CL&P (Connecticut Light & Power)
“Unprecedented damage, be prepared to be a week or more without electricity.”

Take a look at the CL&P power outage map from the morning of Oct. 30.
    Black = 80 to 100% without power.

Snow was between 3 - 27 inches in Octobre? Unreal. And they say this storm will be perhaps a historical event making last year look like a dusting.

I'm running an outdoor training near NoVa all day on Tuesday. I think we're going to have very, very bad weather. I've already emailed my supervisors about scheduling a make up date for everyone. People traveling anywhere from 1-6 hours away through 60+ mph winds and torrential downpours.

    I'm not excited about this.

Ah yes, lost a 70' Oak last October, wonder what comes down this time.

Called the GC that we've befriended over the years to drop off his biggest generator this Saturday.

The joy of it all is that I am heading to Montreal Thursday and Friday of next week.

Reminder to self: start up snowblowers and get couple cans of gas to have on hand.

Great, my brother and sister-in-law are in Africa. Last year they had *some* damage. I'd hate to see something happen while they are gone.

I lost a 70' Oak with a 36-38" diametre too on another property during that Oct storm. I even dedicated some of the tree to a member here in the Lounge.

38 mph winds in Key West. Almost a foot of standing water on the East end of Duval Street. Thousands of near naked people roaming the streets. Oh, the carnage!

    Just Fantasy Fest.

The streets are running multi-colored from the washed off body paint. Low temp of 74 tonight. Oh, the carnage!

Sandy should be gone before tomorrow night.

The North East is the most populated USA area when that storm makes land fall. Shuts down everything.
