    Tesla Clobbering its BMW/Audi/'Benz/Lexus Competition

Dang, the Model 3 is mopping the floor with its foreign lux-car competition. 'Specially here in the Silicon Valley, where you almost can't drive a minute without seeing one.

What's German for, "Our auto industry is crappin' its pants"?

Must be a regional aspect to it. I've never seen a Tesla on the road but I see a lot of Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes autos.

Seems like the killer app for Teslas would be alley cat autocross racing in abandoned office parks on weekends.

Judging from the sales chart in post #1, car buyers do not seem to agree with you.

And that’s sort of the ultimate vote... i.e. what you’re actually willing to put down (a lot of) cash for.

So you have listed car sales. What are the numbers for luxury crossovers and suv’s? I bet you will find people just are not buying cars anymore.
Just because you won't listen to reason does not mean I have to listen to idiocy.

Ppl are still buying cars... they’re still about one-third of the market. The real issue is that they’re not buying American cars hardly at all (aside from Teslas). Which is why Ford threw in the towel on cars not long ago, and plans to eventually make no cars at all, aside from the Mustang.

Far as SUVs go, Tesla has the Model Y coming in 12-18 months. I think it’ll do as well or almost as well as the Mod 3 is (though I think Tesla’s car exterior styling is better than their SUV styling).

Well dang guys, don’t all cheer for an American car company, that also actually makes its cars in America, all at once.

Not it that I have much against foreign makes... I drive one now, in fact. But I suspect that could change next time out.

I get Car and Driver spam all the time about the 10 ugliest new cars and it has the Model 3 with it's ugly wheels right on the front lol. It is butt ugly, but people must not seem to mind if it's selling.

I don't know much about cars, but I see a lot of Tesla's in the GTA. (Toronto)
There's about 5 of them in the parking lot where I work.

I have a Model S, one of the early ones, ordered in fall 2012 and delivered in March 2013. It has been a great car and still drives like a new car. Not long after I got the car, we did our annual beach trip to NC. It was quite an adventure, through a charging desert. We got to the beach with 6 miles of range left and I charged at a beachfront RV park.

Beach week this year, we stopped at a couple of Tesla Superchargers along the way. We were able to leave the dog in the car while we ate lunch thanks to the “dog app”, which leaves the a/c on and puts a message on the screen so passers by don’t freak out. I saw other Tesla’s at the beach pretty much every day; first time I think I’ve seen one down there besides mine.

When things get slow, I turn on the fart app, which gives you the option of replacing turn signal noises with fart sounds or “fart on demand” from your choice of speakers in the car. That’s next level luxury right there.

I think Tesla is still a couple of steps ahead on EV’s. I checked out Audi’s E Tron recently and it’s priced about the same as a standard Model S and it has smaller battery and no charging infrastructure like Tesla’s (I’ve always maintained this is the key to their longevity and one reason they’ve struggled to profitability).

That's surprising. I see at least 100 to 1 BMW, Audi, Merc and so on to Tesla here in Boston.
But then again what I see on the road doesn't say much about three months worth of sales.

They've started appearing on the city-roads in Nebraska.

Interestingly...all driven by lead-foots, which is probably detrimental to the high-efficiency of the vehicle.

According to hfc's post, you can put the car into "fart mode" so it makes farty sounds. That, my friend, is luxury.

And, just think of it... if you’re driving along and rip one in front of your passengers, you can credibly blame it on the car.

One day you will want to fart and can’t and then, oh yes, you will realize the luxury of a good fart.

    They are everywhere here.

My prediction - when the big automakers roll out their Ecars in over the next couple years, the pressure will cause Tesla will either go belly up or be bought by large Tech company or automaker when they are on the brink of bankruptcy.

Personally I don't see the draw - all considered the footprint on the environment isn't proven to be better than a Dino fueled vehicle, life limited on the battery cycles, and insufficient charging infrastructure which is not substantially less expensive to use than gas from what I have read.

When governments figure out and implement a way to charge Ecars for road use taxes (like gasoline and diesel per gallon taxes) they are going to be less attractive.
