    Ut oh

We have any reptile experts in here? My son's girlfriend found this guy on our lawn today. It was 33 degrees and he was the same temperature. I brought him inside and put him in a warm place in a 5 gallon bucket. He is acting dead but other than that, he looks healthy. Wait, that didn't sound right.... Do snakes hibernate or go into suspended animation?

Strange animal behavior is often a harbinger of earthly disasters....flood, earthquake, volcanic eruption, etc. Sorry to break the news to you but you're screwed.

Aside from that, enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend.

Your little friend would make a nice desk accessory...and just in time for Christmas.

That's a common garter snake. Nothing to cry over.

Looks like a common garter snake. Reptiles in colder climates go underground in the winter and basically hibernate until Spring. Something must have disturbed him.

he may be a gartersnake but he was my neighbor and friend, sniffle, sniffle......as it turns out, he's still dead. I don't expect him to recover! (now, if I had found him on Easter, it might have been a different story!)

you can save him by assuming "probe" apposition... or about an hour!

Put him in a bath of warm water to bring his body temp up? I dunno.

pretty sure I would have a wet dead snake then. His bucket was by the wood burner all night but he was in the same position as last night when I came down this morning.

Nothin’ ventured, nothin’ gained. You’re writing him off as dead anyways, so what’s the harm in trying?

If he revives, you should name him Muerte.

There’s an old saying in medicine. You’re not dead until you’re warm and dead.

Maybe he's from the south. Have you tried Kentucky bourbon?

And if that makes no difference you can drink the bourbon. Or maybe you should use tequila.

as a side note, all fall I rescued dozens of gartersnakes from the "big warm road-rock" then decided to sun themself on. I like snakes because they eat stuff I hate!
