    well then

So I haven't had a flat in over 3 years, Common sense reminded me not to breathe a word about it here or anywhere.

This week I have gone to the garage and found flats 3 times, I finally changed out both tires and tubes and figured I was a step ahead.

    WRONG!

today, first day over 55 degrees I was 12 miles into it and I had a flat rear. Replaced the tube, 5 miles later...another flat rear. DAMN IT no more tubes and only one more CO2, and that makes me nervous. 20 more miles.....rear is soft again. GRRRRRRRRRR....CO2 leaked out almost as fast as it went in!

Ok... my wife is out of state, Jim's wife was 60 miles away. he had another tube HOWEVER.....his bike (bent) has a 26 inch rear and a like 20 inch front, we decided to try to stretch a 26 inch around a 700C rim. We got it on (after peeling off an old patch that appeared to be lifting) and managed to get it on and aired up with one more cartridge to spare. We made it most of the way to my place and he peeled off to head home and then head bck to my place for burgers on the grill (and associated adult beverages) about 2 miles from my house the rear started getting soft again. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I managed to limp home and made it, topped off the tire and went in to get cleaned up, went back out, flat as a pancake!

He came back over and we laughed about the day

I am replacing the rim tape next

We had burgers and a few adult beverages.

I still managed over 35 miles!

I considered calling someone for a ride, but, there is no sense ruining a good story!
    Of course I'm sure...that doesn't mean I'm right.....

Let us know when the good story part starts.

Sadly, this time of year means roads and paths are strewn with winter'sdebris yet to be washed away by so called April showers.

Also, in our rush to hit the open roads after long winters, we might forget we hung the bike up back in November, determined to fix that slow leak b4 T day but it subtly slides off the list.

Getting a 26" tube to hang on a 700C is impressive cuz you still have to contend with it's minimum inflated diameter. Karma will want a piece of that action too.

and I actually have your phone number on my cell!

BTW, 10 hours is about what it would have taken me to walk 7 miles! Back roads not a single fricking pickup to beg a ride from!

With any luck you got them all out of your system and won't have another for three more years. But just in case maybe you should buy a case of tubes, a few tires, a pile of Co2 and a good frame pump as it might be the beginings of an epic summer of flats.

But with any luck, all those supplies could ward off any more flats better than not talking about flats.

Switching bikes, maybe that will fix it! The roads are still covered with salt, a good rain will help

Before I clicked on this thread, that little voice inside me said "Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

    But I did anyway.

Holy crap. What have I done?

I should know better by now.

Non obvious flats suck. If you are JRA and get an obvious flat for a pinch flat or a big piece of glass no big deal. But when you get a flat and don't know why you got a flat, can you put another tube in and get a flat. That sucks. Always line up your tires with your rims so you can tell where are the flat is occurring.

So I identified the issue as trashed rim tape, all bunched up and leaving exposed spoke holes. I ordered new rim tape and after a VERY difficult day's work, I decided to air up another bike. BAM!........... My floor pump kicked the bucket. Reverse flow check valve crumbled. Off to town to buy another pump, you'd think a 30 dollar floor pump would last more than 15 years.

    Now, it's dark and cold
