    Here's my weekend car.
98 Boxster base with 68,000 miles. These cars are an absolute steal right now, and relatively inexpensive to own if you do your own work.

Actually, the 2002 aside (since I'm not doing the majority of the work on it, just paying someone else to do it), this is my other winter project. 1974 Honda CB125S. I call it the Big Single.

Had just one car at a time my whole life until last summer. Many years ago had a 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000. With Alfa back in the USA now I bought two last summer. Having lots of fun with them.

Wow. Double new Alfas! I'm rather jealous. Currently, I'm working on a motor rebuild for my 1986 Spider.

I am not sure what happened. I bought one and next thing I had two. I could retire but I still work a lot as I enjoy it. I had to start taking Social Security last summer so I am spending my SS on cars and high performance driving sessions. Might has well have some fun before I am too old.

I've been working on this car lately. I decided it was time to get off the fence - the car can't do double duty as a wheel to wheel racer and autocross and be competitive in either. I decided to go full autocross, since that's mainly what I do with it, plus when I decide to start wheel to wheel racing, I'll get something faster.

I got serious about weight reduction. So far, I've removed about 170 lbs, bringing the weight down to around 1740. Gone are the roll gage, various options the Si has that the HF doesn't (allowable under the UDBD rule), I swapped in a bunch of HF parts (lighter), went back to the CRX brakes from the Integra brakes (added for their superior heat dissipation), removed all emission controls (legal because the car no longer gets driven on public roads), and various other things.

I've gotten most of the easy/cheap weight reduction. I figure there is another 80-90 lbs to be had with some effort/cash, including removing the sunroof (24 lbs), lighter exhaust (15-25 lbs), remove cat (10 lbs), aluminum flywheel (9 lbs, but with additional benefits because it's rotational weight), swap out stock passenger seat for an aluminum racing seat (10 lbs), etc.

Beyond that, it's gets progressively more expensive and I'll have to get more creative. I've seen claims of this model car getting down to 1600#, so there is a lot more to cut.

But even at mid to high 1600s, the weight reduction is roughly the equivalent of adding 13 HP to the car at it's starting weight of 1911 lbs. The big wild card is how the weight reduction and especially the cage removal will affect the handling.

Next after that is building and installing aero (front splitter and rear spoiler).

Longer term plan is to send the blown EW3 out to have it built to SP specs, which will bring it to 110-115 HP. I'll install it with an HF transmission, which has a 58 mph 2nd gear.
Well, the HF transmission was sort of a bust. It actually has a 2nd gear top speed of 80+, so most of my driving is done in first gear. It's actually made me faster, though, since I have to maintain momentum or I get stuck in no man's land where the speed is too slow for an effective 2nd but too fast to downshift.

I modeled the suspension, too. The result was a front ride height increase to reduce positive camber change in turns and a change in dampers to ones that are better suited to the higher spring rates. The car weighs in at around 1700.

Added a WAAS enabled bluetooth GPS to my data collection, and with the newer iPHone I'm using, I have software that I can use to analyze my morning laps during the break. Last event I was able to drop a second and a half that way. Definite competitive advantage. According to the so-so sensors in the iPhone, I'm pulling 1.5 - 1.6 G in some turns.

Had some competition in FSP this year nipping at my heels but I managed to win my class and finish 2nd overall in the PAX championship.

Andy, how's the Austin Healey coming along?

    Here's my weekend "car".

    1991 VW Westfalia
    - Engine rebuilt into a 2.3L (OE is 2.1) with misc upgrades,
    - Auto trans rebuilt, with Audi 5000 turbo internals, limited slip diff, external ATF cooler,
    - Just about everything that makes it go or stop has been replaced and upgraded when possible.

My SUV sleeps four and has a kitchen.

That looks pretty sweet. Did you do a PPI and check for IMS bearing problems (or did you know the repairs had been done?)

No professional PPI but the car had maintenance records and receipts from new and I was able to get it on a lift and perform a decent inspection.
The IMS has a dual row bearing, so I'm not overly concerned about it. I will however have it changed when the clutch is due.

Those things have crazy prices these days. You probably arenít going to lose anything on it if you eve r need to sell.

Iíve been looking around for a decent C5 Z06 and maybe start phasing that in in place of the CRX. Parts are getting impossible to find plus it was never intended as a race car. Strapping wide racing tires and stiff suspension on an economy car causes all manner of problems. For a vette itís just a Saturday afternoon drive.

I havenít started the Healey yet. Iím still working on my convertible. Itís getting very close to the final color stage - Iíve been wersanding seal coat with 600 grit for the last week or so. I keep underestimating how long this stuff takes. I figured Iíd have it paint by now. I may not get it painted before the cold weather hits, in which case I will order the interior kit and spend the winter working on that and trim polishing.

Iím going on year 12 on this car, but it literally needed EVERYTHING redone, including replacement of about 65% of the sheet metal. Looking back, I should have looked for a good rust free body and used this one as a parts car.

My brother bought this last year in New Zealand. It was for sale in West Chester PA at some stage as he found a listing for it complete with VIN plate details. Is there anyway people can look up the ownership history of cars if they know the VIN in the US? NZ we can.

Title history search from the state of purchase. That's a 68' correct? Sequoia Green was not available in 1967 and the 307 was produced in 68 too.
