A lot of people used to say a business man would make a great President and the government should be run like a business.

Guess we won't be hearing that again for a while,

Most reasonable people would agree that a person who lies constantly, like Trump, is garbage.

Only 5,000 Trump lies so far??

I thought the total would be much higher... he really works at it.

The government shouldn't be run like a business, but no reason a business man couldn't make a great President. But first that would take a great business man with a vast depth of knowledge. Something Trump woefully lacks.

Those are public lies. There's no doubt he lies to people in private at an equal or higher rate. (Think of everything he's said to Melania!) So the total is significantly higher.

    Feel better?

Bush W. was a businessman and indeed had an MBA.

The problem with running the government like a business is that it can't be run like a business due to the Constitution. In a public company, the CEO is only accountable to the board of directors. In a privately held company (such as the one Trump ran), the owner is is only accountable to investors, who generally have no way to influence decision maker. In other words, businesses aren't democracies.

so basically what you're saying is Trump is just like every other politician.

    Good to know.
Whenever the legislators endeavour to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence - John Locke

    Huh?

No, they are saying that Trump lies are at an unprecedented level. If you believe all politicians lie as much as Trump then show us evidence of Obama's 5,000 lies

oh, ok. So it's not the lies that matter, but the degree.

How many lies are you comfortable with? 4000? 3000?

I think you should move in orders of magnitude, given the extreme level of the reference point. Trump is orders of magnitude worse than other politicians in history.

Everybody lies some of the time. Do you judge everyone who has told a single lie the same as those who have told thousands? If not, then it does seem that you consider the number and the nature of the lies told.

    Obama:
    21% True
    28% Mostly True
    27% Half True
    12% Mostly False
    12% False
    2% "Pants on Fire"

    https://www.politifact.com/personalities/barack-obama/

    Donald Trump

    5% True
    12% Mostly True
    15% Half True
    22% Mostly False
    33% False
    14% Pants on Fire

    https://www.politifact.com/personalities/donald-trump/

3/4 of Obama's statements were at least half-true, while 2/3 of what Trump says is false or mostly false. Their relative veracity is not even remotely comparable. Lest you think Politifact is just liberally biased, it actually rates Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan not too different from Obama. Trump is an extreme outlier.

What world are you living in. Trump is setting new records and making a lot of other politicians seem truthful.

Here is the difference compared to Trump and others. Trump one must assume it is a complete lie and it is the job of the Trump loving idiots job to prove that it is true.

Others at least you request proof of it being a lie. Trump is the other way around. You have to prove he is telling the truth.

In Realityville, they would call that a straw man.

Are you implying that Trump is grounded in reality?

Trump doesn't care about truth, accuracy, and integrity. He only cares about bullshitting people, image, and blind loyalty.

No they wouldn't, Andy69; they'd call it asking you to substantiate your statement with facts.

A straw man is a type of argument.
More Americans wanted Hillary Clinton to be President than wanted Donald Trump.

Donald Trump has never had a wife he didn't cheat on.

Sounds like you'd like to see a Mitt Romney Presidency.

    I'm surprised.
