fwiw, I had the last post on one of the locked threads--but it wasn't anything incendiary.

    http://forums.roadbikereview.com/sho...8&postcount=13

I quoted fixed's post and simply replied with:

    Truman 1945-1953
    Eisenhower 1953-1961

then I re-read his post and noticed he was talking about an administration going more than eight years, not two-term presidents.

you can't delete so I just "whited out" my post.

hope this helps--I don't know why it, or the other thread, were locked, though. my post was only the two lines above (in blue).

I think over the years certain folks here have been allowed to post and sustain threads that considerably exceeded Cory and JohnHenry's threads on the troll meter. Although I think JohnHenry is working on setting a new standard for high quantity/frequency trolling.

Wait one second! ...a thought just came to mind, is JohnHenry AKA Livesteam?

I always enjoyed hoo's little professorial one-line instructive posts on WHY he was locking a thread. 'OK, trolling the newbie is a no-no. Thread locked.' It bore light unto the darkness. Unexplained lockings are just OMINOUS, and dark-cloudy. We are left confused, and adrift.

    Here's the common ground:
    • Zero content in the OP---just trolling.
    • I gave a little time to see whether replies would develop something interesting. No, just back and forth.
    • I'm too busy today to spend a lot of time following them to see whether they blow up, and there's not enough content that anything's lost by locking.
If the OP has content and thought, I will be reluctant to lock.
If people are actively posting interesting/thoughtful material, I will be reluctant to lock.
If the OP looks trollish, I will lock with very little provocation.

None of those threads crossed a line, but they were potentially explosive and had so little content there was nothing lost by locking them pre-emptively.

Thanks. That's useful criticism. I will post explanations on the threads.

    That was a nice touch.

Just hate it when my attempt at funny pics and light hearted distraction gets locked early!

I was going to say OES had the funniest post of the day but the timing and content of your Liberace pic was perfect.

I don't know. That is something a mere moderator cannot fix. I'll forward a query to the administrators.

I've been experiencing the 'out of order' post phenomenon as well since the recent upgrade.

Also, I'm new around here and was wondering where the "delete" option is for posts. I make a lot of snarky contentless posts and often regret them right after I hit post. Where are you hiding it?

You have to ask the moderator to delete it for you. If it's a post in PO, send me a PM requesting deletion. If it's in another forum, you need to ask the moderator of that forum.

I'm generally happy to delete posts if I'm asked to, and sometimes I will delete posts on my own initiative as an alternative to locking down a useful thread.
