Just the latest chapter in athlete-academic fraud. A story as old as college athletics. Professors were decrying this fraud crap in the late 19th century

Don't know why they didn't just build a building with their name on it on the campus of their choice. That has always worked.

It is comical to see the deplorables wailing about Hollywood elites.

Wait till they hear about how Kushner's criminal father got him into Harvard

This method seemed to fill a particular niche: parents of kids who couldn't make the cut through the traditional route of private schools, tutors, paid enrichment, and consultants but didn't have enough money to buy the school a building. Funny (and sad) that the bribery method is illegal, but the donate a building method is A-OK.

    USC: University of Spoiled Children

    ******************

Relax everyone --- this is just form of "victimless" white collar crime.

Oh, please accept my deepest personal condolences and prayers about your child who didn't get admitted as all the anual slots have been filled.

    Now got have some cake.

Ever wonder how DJT did in school? Don't bother, while he was criticizing Obama for not revealing his college records, Trump's lawyers threatened his alma maters not to release his grades. Trump says that he graduated first in his class at Wharton but given that he did not graduate with honors (GPA 3.40 or better) we know that's not true. Just another lie to throw on the pile.

    Remember Kelley Williams-Bolar?

She was was convicted of using the wrong residence to get her daughters into a better school district in Ohio than underperforming Akron.

She was sentenced to 3 years & ordered to pay $30,000 to the school district.

    Lock them up!

I have numerous college friends who made nice annual donations to our alma mater "in case" their kids wanted to apply.

I had an old gf who managed to get into Harvard somehow, even though she had no business being there. She had a rich Ivy League dad who had friends though.....

Money always has, and always will pull strings in our society. Pay to play has always been part of higher education in this country. Glad these people got caught though.

    Correct.

After all equal opportunity only applies to race, gender, or age ... not money and what kindness, justice or opprotunities money can create.

I wonder who paid for David Hogg?

Why? Does the success of someone who dares question Dear Leader trigger you?

Harvard was not one of the schools in the bust. Hogg had a 4.2 GPA and helped build a nationally recognized PAC.

If you are looking for someone to be angry about look at Kushner, whose criminal daddy bought his way into Harvard

Agree, a 4.2 GPA is super high. The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at Harvard University was 4.04.

    Impressive kid.

Those averages are brought down by the Kushners out there buying their way into Harvard.

HS grade inflation FTW-multiple sources show him only having a 1270 SAT.

Grade inflation? Huh? His 4.2 GPA. The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at Harvard University last year was 4.04.

His GPA was higher than the average and he had massive extracurricular success. If you are looking for someone to be angry about check out Kusher, who did not have the grades and only got in because his crooked daddy gave a $2,500,000 payoff

High school GPAs are incredibly difficult to compare as different schools have completely different systems. My old high school graded on a 6 point scale, and did not differentiate between letter grades (a 90 was the same as 100 for GPA purposes). Other schools may not even award grades higher than a 4.0 and require an A+ grade to get a 4.

Regardless, David Hogg wouldn't have needed any payments. Harvard regularly admits kids with truly unusual accomplishments. If you win the national science fair, write a best selling novel, or star in a blockbuster movie, your GPA and SAT scores become a lot less important. Having become a national spokesperson and building a PAC in the way he did qualifies, regardless of whether you agree with his politics.

    Weighted GPA

Honors classes boost a given grade 1 point, AP and dual enrollment 2 points.

    Common practice across the US.

You don't really think that most of the other kids who were admitted into Harvard last year did not also take honors classes? Seriously?

Yup, but since he dared question Dear Leader after a MAGA hat wearing nut shot up his school. When someone dares question Dear Leader the deplorables rushes to smear him.

    So strange.

Of course they do, but some high schools only go up to 5 points. There's also a huge difference in workload getting an A in AP Physics or Calculus compared to AP Psychology or US History.

Still doesn't change the fact that his SAT score was well below what Harvard would normally want to see-guess some near perfect Harvard applicant with a 4 something GPA and a high 1500s SAT will just have to make do with their safety school.
