    actual times

    why dont they put markers in each bike so when you cross the line its for what you did not the whole group. keeping that guy 10min back from getting time of the guy that worked for it. wouldent you then see who is really the best?

    It's a safety thing. People would be fighting for one, two seconds, trying to get ahead or have their teams block out a guy in a field of 200 riders; it would get ugly. There would lots of unnecessary crashes if they didn't.

    Because sitting in the group takes virtually the same effort whether you're 4th or 94th. When did you see a guy 10 minutes back get the same time as the leader?

    e.g. see cat 4 and 5 racing where idiots are sprinting in the middle and back of the pack for places that don't mean didly squat.
