Phil Keoghan from The Amazing Race and a friend retraced the route of the 1928 Tour de France on vintage bicycles. I watched it on Hulu awhile back. Don't know where else it is available. It is called "Le Ride"

    This is the trailer.

    Enjoyed that.

While not about the TdF the book "Gironimo! Riding the very Terrible 1914 Tour of Italy" authored by Tim Moore is an enjoyable read. His ride of the entire 1914 Giro d'Italia on a period correct bike while wearing period correct clothing is pretty entertaining.

Gosh, Tim Moore. Getting that book into a cover to cover narrative version would sell.

Weren't dudes physically crippled and killed from riding the excruciating distances without breaks back in the day? All the while on glorified fixies, also without brakes?
