EF's Giro kit both ugly and disrespectful?

If you haven't yet see it, EF debuted a new kit for the Giro to avoid confusion with the Maglia Rosa:

    https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/r...ditalia-471288

    https://www.bicycling.com/bikes-gear...ha-palace-kit/

apparently designed in collaboration with the Palace skateboard brand.

IMO this not only harks back to some of the ugliest kit in the history of the sport from the late 80's early 90s (looking at you Mapei, Castorama, Carera) but is disrespectful to the sport. Skateboarding? A cartoon duck??? SMDH. I mean I know the sport is desperate for sponsors, but....

I’m guessing commentators will appreciate how much EF riders will stand out in the peloton...

The kit is not boring. Therefore, it is good. I like it. Tempted to buy a jersey, and I don't have any team jerseys or kits.

I agree. I thought it was quite refreshing. It didn't seem like a cohesive theme with the artwork, but I thought it was cool and funky versus what bikes have looked like for the last 15 years.

“Disrespectful”? Lol, in a sport rife with cheaters, what kit they are wearing is of zero concern.

i like it for the record.

I'm failing to see how it's disrespectful at all.

EF's Giro kit both ugly and disrespectful?

Maybe “un-dignified” is better. But disrespectful to the sport still applies I think. I mean if you want attention, why not clown make-up and red rubber noses too? That would be about the same IMO. Same reason you don’t (normally in pre-COVID days ) show up to a business meeting in a t-shirt, board-shorts, and sandals. Showing up to a Grand Tour in skateboard kit with a cartoon duck on it (did you see the helmets?) Maybe Barney the dinosaur will be next. I know teams are hard-up for sponsorship $ but still...

I absolutely love the new EF kit. Fun. Vibrant. Distinctive. Easy to pick out in the 'ton. Then again, I know how important it is that a team present a dour, scowling, all-business aura.
Mapie is a conventional looking former Hollywood bon viveur, now leading a quiet life in a house made of wood by an isolated beach. He has cultivated a taste for culture, and is a celebrated raconteur amongst his local associates, who are artists, actors, and other leftfield/eccentric types. I imagine he has a telescope, and an unusual sculpture outside his front door. He is also a beach comber. The Rydster.

    I think it's ugly.

However, people are talking about it, bringing attention to the team and the brands they represent. Not a bad marketing deal in the current environment, especially since sponsors are abandoning pro cycling and causing teams to fold or downsize their aspirations.

I just hope the rest of the peloton doesn't follow their lead. As a novelty, it's fine, but I prefer cleaner lines and design.

...not that I buy ProTour kit.

    Disrespectful? No.

    Innovative? No.

    Refreshing? No.

In the same league as , say, Canyon Rapha? Not in a million years

Attracting publicity? Yes and meeting its primary purpose.

Way back when I was a kid in the 1960's, I remember a sports reporter on an L.A. television station calling sports the toy department of life. It still rings with me.

I wish all the teams would do this in the grand tours. It'd be a little easier to follow the yellow in the TDF without all the other yellow kits in the race.

I tried your link but the browser I've been using can't open velo news. But Hell, I've started a thread on a story that I had already started a thread on.

Aaaand a down-rate in reputation for simply expressing and opinion about a kit? And your comment said that *I* should lighten up. You have a real problem with people who don't agree with you don't you?

Well, the idiocy that is pro cycling continues. I looked into buying a kit. You have to already have been a member of Rapha's Club before the kit was even revealed. I assume the team gets some cut off the sale, or they shouldn't work with a brand that won't. Which means the pro cycling team EF isn't getting the money that i would have spent.

Pro Teams complian they don't have any money, but then don't do any merchandising aside to a very few of an already small market?!?! THAT is stupid!
