Lawson Craddock Broken Scapula Pressing on

Any doctors in the house reading this? Long term complications, if any, from pressing on with a broken scapula? Watching him ride all twisted is hard. If the scapula heals correctly I wonder what sort of problems will arise from riding so bent...

I didn't watch the tour today, did he make it to the end?

Vaughters said today was going to be the toughest for him and it would slowly get better each day.

Tough kid. I hope he isn't jeopardizing his future career by not letting his injury heal properly. Braking or getting out of the saddle must be pretty excruciating.

There is a 95 percent likelihood of no complications. Just pain. Yes, it is more than likely it will progressively get better--whether or not he can will himself to continue or the injury and accompanying pain causes him to quit. (Likely.)

By the way is lidocaine a prohibited substance? His A/C joint in addition to the muscles attached to the scapula and possibly any area of the "shoulder" will also cause him a lot of pain.

I had this a couple of years back. Mine was a through body, displaced fracture, but was still riding about 2-3 weeks later, albeit not anywhere near race levels. By the account I heard, his is "small" so it may actually heal quicker and be less of a hindrance come start of week 2.

Agree. Pro-cyclists are some tough cookies for sure.
