RBR TdF 2020 Predictions! Post by Start Time 2020!

Hello, everyone. Since we are all so smart about road racing, let's show it off: post your predictions before start time for the 2020 Tour de France. Talk is cheap. Can you call it a month before the final stage? A year?

[In 2006, I reviewed whatever posts we had with any type of prediction, and noted how lousy we were. After that, I have done this "Predictions" post since 2007 TdF. If you do "advanced search" for "Predictions" and "Pjay" as the poster, you can see all of these.]

At the end of the 2020 TdF, I will review how well we did. Historically, we have been pretty lousy, with some moments of brilliance. Bon chance!

Call first, or try first, second, or third-

Well, no one predicted a start in late August! Conflict with Vuelta will make things pretty different this year.

I'm taking Valverde's prediction that there won't be a Tour or any other race the rest of this year.

I predict they'll race virtually/electronically... *looks deep into the crystal ball*... and a mountain stage will be decided by a hyperactive Chihuahua named Pepe accidentally unplugging someone's power cord rendering their Zwift stats useless...

Well it is going to happen, which is good.

    Yellow/Podium/GC: Roglic, Pinot, Landa
    Green/points: Sagan
    Polka-Dot/climber: Jesus Herrada
    White/youth: Pogacar
    Red/combatif: Alaphilippe
    Team: Jumbo-Visma

    Lantern Rouge: Crass
DNF: Van Gaderen (hope not, but it seems typical)
Brown/Douche: If we're lucky no one
Honorable Mention: Sepp Kuss and Alejandro Valverde for different reasons......Kuss for what he should do in helping Roglic. Valverde for hoping a top 10 to extend that record.

Looks like Roglic has the best form of the contenders.
Green Jersey. I guess Sagan, but he hasn't been looking all that great.
    Polka dot? I don't know.

    Yellow/Podium/GC: Martinez, Dumoulin, Buchmann
    Green/points: Sagan
    Polka-Dot/climber: Bardet
    White/youth: Pogacar
    Red/combatif: Sagan
    Team: EF

    Lantern Rouge:
    DNF: Roglic
    Brown/Douche: Impey
    Honorable Mention: Kuss

I think Sagan changes things up this year. He's never really been a rider who utilized (or had) support, and as someone pointed out, his form doesn't look the same. That, coupled with his Giro ambitions, I think he does a lot more and really competes to get in breakaways, thereby scooping up uncontested sprint points.

I also think Roglic's injuries are more serious than previously let on, so the team switches gears to Dumoulin, with Kuss being his super-domestique.

Bardet has already hinted at freelancing and stage pursuits, so I think he goes after the KOM jersey from the get-go.

EF gets behind Martinez (although it could just as easily be Higuita), and they get team and the podium

I'll go out on a limb and predict that TJVG will compete for a stage win and give us all hope, but then later will also lose 20 minutes on a mt stage.

I'd hate to predict this but I'm concerned Sagan won't win a single stage this year.

COVID cases are rising sharply in France so my prediction is that they cancel the TDF midway through the race. 🙁

Predictions Results! We should listen to KoroninK more often!
KoroninK gets Team and White Jersey correctly, and has Roglic on the podium.
il sogno gets Roglic on the podium.

Otherwise, we are not so great. But don't dismay - we have a bunch of wonderful door prizes to give out - these flimsy LCL Le Tour caps.

    Here is how we did:

    Podium:

    On podium, wrong spot:
    KoroninK: "Yellow/Podium/GC: Roglic, Pinot, Landa"
il sogno: "Looks like Roglic has the best form of the contenders."

    Green Jersey:
    No one

    Polka Dot:
    No one

    White / Youth:
    KoroninK: "White/youth: Pogacar"
    Wetworks: "White/youth: Pogacar"

    Team:
    KoroninK: "Team: Jumbo-Visma"

    Honorable Mention:

jetdog9: "I'd hate to predict this but I'm concerned Sagan won't win a single stage this year."

Except Movistar actually won the team classification.
