TdF '20 Discussn Thread Stage 10 Sep 8 Spoiler Alert.

TdF '20 Stage 10 Discussn Thread. Spoiler Alert.

This is a flat 115-miler. The first of two flat courses in a row for the sprinters. I have noted that, to me, this first week has seemed exciting, since it has not been a mere parade of sprinter stages. But the sprinter stages are great racing, and great race viewing.

Two in a row, mid-tour? We will see how this goes.

The GC hopefuls, as they have done in recent days, will all have to be checking each other. So, they will get pulled along as a couple teams work on managing the front of the race to set up their guy for the sprint finish. So we may likely see a coherent, fast peloton all days, with GC hopefuls each doing their own version of staying out of trouble...

Trouble: This route is right off the Atlantic. Right off the Bay of Biscay. The coast is always windy. Combine a windy day and a flat route for a sprint finish, and as much as the peloton might want to hang together, there are great prospects for the formation of many echelons.

Weather calls for winds, below 10mph, out of the NNE. The final several km run NW. So there may be a cross wind. Much of the second half of the course runs NNW so they would have something of a headwind.

The savvy rider would be wise to remember the Sagan-Froome Elopement of 2016.

So, while sprint stages have the potential to be boring, this one very well may satisfy our viewing pleasure.

Alejandro Valverde is still racing? He must be in really good shape for a 40 year old.
You'd think we were here for something other than fun. - Ishmael

Yes he's still racing and he's in the top 20 of GC currently. He's riding the Tour to both gain form as well as to be a rider coach/teacher/guide for Mas who said he doesn't have the experience and is extremely happy and grateful to have Alejandro to teach him how to race for GC and lead a team.

He's one of only 2 Movistar riders that haven't crashed in this year's Tour. Movistar said he got caught behind one of the crashes, but he wasn't involved in any of them.
