Vuelta a España 2017 - Stage Four (Spoilers Allowed)

    Vuelta a España 2017

    Stage Three Re-cap:

The first mountain stage of this year's Vuelta started out in the sign of the breakaway with none other than the proverbial breakaway artist DeGendt leading the proceedings - ably assisted by the likes of Davide Villella (Cannondale Drapec) and Przemyslaw Niemiec (UAE Team Emirates).

But the peloton, led by Team Sky, pinned their ears back and began a campaign to pull the breakaway home - it was clear that Sky were staking dibs on the finish line and the Vuelta's red leader's jersey.

Once Sky and the rest caught and consumed the breakaway, the GC boys - including Froomie - made plays for the lead, but it was Vincenzo Nibali's down-hilling prowess that would again make the difference for "The Shark" and he was able to cross the finish with an early stage win - one that will surely energize him as this GT moves forward.

Chris Froome pulls on the red for the first time during this race.

GC Top-ten Standings after Stage Three:
    1) Christopher Froome (Sky) 8:53:44
    2) David De La Cruz (Quick-Step) 0:00:02
    3) Nicolas Roche (BMC)
    4) Tejay Van Garderen (BMC)
    5) Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida) 0:00:10
    6) Esteban Chaves (Orica-Scott) 0:00:11
    7) Fabio Aru (Astana) 0:00:38
    8) Adam Yates (Orica-Scott) 0:00:39
    9) Domenico Pozzovivo (AG2R La Mondiale) 0:00:43
    10) Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale) 0:00:48

    Jersey Distribution after Stage Three:
    Leader: Chris Froome (Sky)
    Points: Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida)
    Mountains: Chris Froome (Sky)

Nibbles before the start of Stage Three - is that a knowing smile?

    Stage Four: Escaldes-Engordany / Tarragona. Anella Mediterránea 2018, 198.2km

A somewhat tame affair only broken up by a Cat 3 climb, otherwise a downhill Sprinter's dream of a stage. The points jersey will likely be the only jersey changing owners after this stage.

Bit of a technical i.e. dangerous finish today. I hope they all get thru it without incident.. and that it doesn't rain.

Good win for Trentin for QS but a small number of riders came down just outside the 3Km marker including Pozzovivo, I think.
