    Siberian Ginseng (Eleuthero Root)

Just wondering if anyone has had experience using Siberian Ginseng (Eleuthero Root). It's an "adaptogen," which ostensibly improves vitality. It's sometimes used as an aid in recovering from over-training (for which I have a proclivity).

    Thanks in advance.

Nothing magic in ginseng. It's been around a long time and the following statement pretty much summarizes the research results:

"it has been difficult to either verify or quantify the exact medicinal benefits of ginseng using science, as there are contradictory results from different studies"

Believe what you want, but there is little evidence that it offers anything over a varied and high quality diet.

    Clarification

It seems likely that the same uncertainty referred to in Kerry's quote applies to "Siberian ginseng," but the plant the OP asked about is not in fact ginseng, but a different genus, not closely related. Both of them are long used in traditional herbal medicine in Asia, but they're not the same, not used the same, and have different (purportedly) active compounds. I think it may no longer be legal in the U.S. to sell this product under the name "Siberian Ginseng."

True. It's now sold as "Eleuthero" or "Eleuthero root" in the USA.
