Cracked Hub on Zipp 101 - Great Customer Service Zipp!

Glad I did a pre-ride inspect. I noticed this crack on the hub of my Zipp 101 rear hub flange. It looks to invole 3 spokes. The wheels are 1.5 years old with about 3,500 - 4,000 miles on them. I'm a 165 lb rider and these are on my 2011 Roubaix Expert. Never wrecked, no issues. Took it in to the LBS yesterday and they are contacting Zipp. I am expecting a great customer service experience from them. I will update with their response.

Do you recall specifically which version of the hub (model# and version#)?

Had mine replaced by zipp with zipp 30's. They stopped making the 101's. Seems like this was a fairly common problem.

Outstanding and quick response from Zipp through my LBS. They are offering me a new wheelset, as the 101's are no longer available. They are offering S 30 's or S 60's. So I need to do some research on these to see which is best for me. Great customer service in my opinion.

One black one (same gen as above I believe) here at the shop and couple of the silver the gen. before that (carbon endcaps).

Customer service is great. I just wish they swing their engineering of the hubs more towards durability. The heavier current hubs are too new to have data on, but I assume they won't fail as often. The other usual issue is bearing durability mostly due to seals.

Yep. A common problem. One of the guys I ride with had this happen a few weeks ago. Zipp sent him a full set of 30s. He paid the shipping.

After reading enough posts about breaking Zipp hubs, I decided not to risk one of my Zipp hubs breaking during a ride. I prefer to keep the rubber side down.

So, I'm having my Zipp 202 Firecrest wheels re-built with DT Swiss 240 hubs.

The Zipp 188-V8/88hubs are in perfect condition. Soon for sale on E-Bay.
