    Got screwed ...

OK, about 800 miles into the Great Tubeless Experiment and ... I believe!

Somehow I picked up a screw and rather than pull it out and make a mess I decided to ride it the remaining 8-9 miles home. Of course I didn't have a plug kit (though I did have an inner tube) but even the next day it was holding pressure.

So how do I fix this? Are the anchovies from a plug kit a permanent fix? Is this going to require a proper plug of tire material (whatever that is) and RTV/rubber/glue? How does a screw embed itself like this anyway?

If you have the cash, the easy way is to get a new tire.
If you don't, go to an auto parts store and get a thing called a tire boot, it's a patch that has cords in it. Get the smallest/thinnest one you can, cut it down to fit from bead to bead -1/2", take a drill with wire brush and wire brush the whole area (on the inside of course), put on rubber cement if required & apply patch.
I would not ride that tire on the front, nor over 20mph.

Sure plugs last if they are put in right. Plug it and run it if it holds air.

I'd do that, and add a vulcanizing step afterwards; hit it up with a propane pencil torch, then clamp it to make it adhere. A vulcanized patch will never come off.

Didn't think about an auto parts store ... think I'll try that. Thanks, all!

Yea, don't use a plug, that's just to hold air.

Might be a challenge getting the sealant off the tire surface to get a good bond with the boot. Make sure things are super clean before gluing the boot.
