Keeping the pressure within the range recommended by the manufacturer and imprinted on the sidewall of the tire combined with common sense is all one needs to know.

Road tires range in suppleness. At the most supple end are Vittoria Open Corsas. At the most rigid end are Maxxis ReFuse. So why would anybody want a rigid tire? Puncture resistance for one. The Maxxis ReFuse is nearly bombproof at the expense of comfort. The Vittoria Open Corsa is like riding on a cloud, but they aren't very durable.

The Vittoria Rubino Pros are a good compromise between comfort and durability. I believe the Conti 5000's are roughly in the same category, but more expensive.
